My previous photo showed the famous Pont Neuf - or 'New Bridge' - of Toulouse, seen from a distance of several hundred metres in the hazy Autumn light. Here, I am standing again on the east bank of the river Garonne, but this time on the south side of the bridge beside the first arch and below the Quai de Tounis.
Built of bricks and stone, the construction took from 1544 to 1632, although the bridge was not inaugurated until 16 October, 1659, in the reign of King Louis XIV. The laying of the foundations took many years, and the first arch was not commenced until 1614. I presume it was the one nearest to the camera, since this is the side of the old city itself. Interestingly, the bridge is not symmetrical, and the highest point occurs above the third arch of the seven, rather than above the middle arch, as can be clearly seen in my photo. This arch is the largest of them, with a span of 30 metres.
Today, the Pont Neuf is still perhaps Toulouse's most renowned historic structure, and used daily by thousands of pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles.

Hello Andrew ,
Peu d'eau dans la Garonne , mais sufisament pour capter de jolis reflets du superbe pont ; J'aime le contraste entre l'édifice bien éclairé et l'environnement plus sombre .

Bonjour mon cher Andre,
I think you are enjoying your little break in France. Thank you for the most interesting notes.
I like your pov, using the bridge and its reflection to create two fine, angled lines, converging in the b/g. It makes a great lead and also a most interesting 'face'; with a two large eyes and a wide-open mouth, it appears as a great monster, gobbling the wild flowers in its vicinity!
Although the light doesn't look wonderful, you have achieved excellent sharpness to the engaging details.
My warm regards,

This picture nicely complements your last one of this same lovely bridge. Whereas your last picture was taken virtually contre jour, this one has more traditional lighting coming partly from in front of you but chiefly from the left side.
This light has beautifully lit the main face of the bridge, so allowing some beautiful reflections but has also "modelled" the structure very well by keeping the archways of the bridge in relative shade.
Lovely colours, perfect exposure and, as always, exquisite sharpness.

Pas très nette la surface de cette rivière mais doit on attendre toujours les meilleures conditions pour une photo. Celle-ci est bien construite avec un angle de prise de vue intéressant et des reflets fidèles de ces arches de pont.

I like the perspective you chose to show this bridge, the warm tones are very nice also, and the reflection completes perfectly the composition, well seen,

a magnificent image here, because of the diagonal and the deep perspective of the bridge, which you have caught from a low point of view to give a good dynamism to the composition.
The image is very clear, colors and light are perfectly managed, and the reflections add a strong aesthetic complement to the ensemble.
A beautiful work.

Splendid example of an old historic arched stone bridge still in use to-day with great perspective & leading line. Fantastic viewpoint, the disappearing lines converging in this image at exactly the right spot make this an outstanding composition for me. Details are delicious in subtle light and colors and almost can feel the breath of time in these stone works. The arch shapes, reflection and shadows are just amazing creating great contrast to blue sky. Stunning good shape for such an old bridge. Excellent capture, Congrats and TFS

Great minds think alike! I uploaded a similar bridge shot taken from a similar angle yesterday. Good sharpness & textural details. Superb warm cold colour contrasts beyween the blue sky & yellow red ochre colour of the bridge. Tfs & have a great weekend and Merry Xmas!

so this is what the bridge looks like close up,the low POV not only gives a fine perspective but also shows the workmanship off well.
The reflection is of course a big plus, nice one.

la ripresa dal basso evidenzia la mole del ponte e permette di catturare il suo riflesso sull'acqua,
Buona a definizione,

Hello Andrew, A lovely & most charming old bridge, a photographers delight. I like your well chosen low POV, enabling you to capture some good FG detail thereby increasing not only the depth but also interest in the image. Nice reflections, the light looks as though it may may been difficult but well handled, the green grass a good element adding some colour contrast, a beautiful image with lovely light & natural looking colour.

A picture with a great point of view and
composition: the lower position makes
the bridge bigger and the diagonal line
of the bridge creates a very nice depth.
The light management is also great.
