Photographer's Note
The city of Tarbes has an unequalled collection on the hussars. Uniforms, weapon, pictures from European regiments and from the American army are visible since April 18th, 2012 in the International Museum of the Hussars located in the middle of the garden Massey in Tarbes. Fifteen years after his closing for renovation, the visitors were numerous to discover the history of these servicemen across ages and conflicts.
Created in 1458 by Matthias Ier de Hongrie, the hussars are part of a military unit composed of light horsemen. The origin of their name comes from two Hungarian words " húsz " which meant "twenty" and "Ár" which meant "pay". For history, from Medium Age every village of the Kingdom Hungarian had to provide horsemen taken up and armed to the sovereign. The number of men to endow was of one for twenty agrarian plots (important enough plot to nourish a family).
