Privileged moment, the sun sets over the lake

of leisure beside a nature reserve located in the department of Tarn on common Cambounet-sur-le-Sor and Saïx in the alluvial plain of Sor and Agout.

This protected, over 30 hectares natural area is classified ZNIEFF (natural area of ​​ecological interest flora fauna) type 1. Founded in September 1990, it is part of nature reserves in France since 1993. Heron colony is one of the largest in Midi-Pyrénées (700-800 pairs).

A leisure inter (fishing, canoeing, horseback riding) adjacent to the reserve is home to the purple heron.
Up to seven species of herons breed: gray heron, cattle egret, purple heron, little bittern, heron and little egret and sometimes squacco. Other species such as moorhen, coot, scaup, kingfishers and little grebe also breed there.
Many species of ducks (shoveler, gadwall, pintail, teal ...) come to spend the winter, as the snipe.
Migration autumn and spring are also an opportunity to observe species such as crossing the white stork, osprey, the black and whiskered tern, and several shorebirds (knights, sandpipers, etc.).
More than 170 species of birds have been recorded nearly 90 species linked to humides2 environments. Free course is designed for the visitors, with several observation posts.
