sanctuary of Xe XIe XIIIe XIXe centuries.

In the City of Rocamadour on bank of the valley of Alzou, at foot of the castle and ramparts dominating the site, of XIVe XIXe centuries.

Before Xe century, a primitive sanctuary city in 1105, dedicated to the Virgin preceded the current sanctuary.
This place became after the discovery of the body of Saint-Amadour in 1166 a place of pilgrimage for all Christendom, like Saint-Jacques de Compostelle.
After the destruction and plunderings until XVIe century and a certain lapse of memory at the XVIIe XVIIIe centuries, the sanctuary and its church Saint-Sauveur and Saint-Amadour, the multiple chapels, the crypt, were restored at the XIXe century.

The church Saint-Saveur and the Saint-Amadour crypt, are inscits on the list of the World heritage by UNESCO under the Ways of Saint-Jacques de Compostelle in France.

Among many famous pilgrims have can quote:
Saint-Louis with his mother Blanche de Castille and her brothers Robert Alphonse and Charles came in pilgrimage in Rocamadour the first and two May, 1244.
Aliénor of Aquitaine - Henri II Plantagenêt - Jacques Cartier.

Rocamadour is a french commune, located in the department of the Lot of the Midi-Pyrenees area, populated of 614 Amadouriens, distributed on 50 km², that is to say 12 hab./km².

Its name comes from the discovered intact body of Amadour, in the middle of the sanctuary marial in 1166.
Around the sanctuaries, the city of Rocamadour is stretched on several stages and districts formerly protected by eleven strengthened doors.

Excellent cadrage de ce sanctuaire qui semble enchâssé dans la falaise. Photo parfaitement nette et contrastée malgré l'emploi d'une longue focale. Rien de tel que le trépied!

Ah Rocamadour, un site reconnaissable entre tous. Quelle merveille ce village accroché aux pierres.
Ton cadrage est excellent et montre parfaitement la physionomie particulière de la cité.
La netteté est irréprochable, sublimant la pierre et l'architecture. On profite ainsi de chaque détail.
Très jolie vue, merci de ce partage.

Voilà une architecture qui ne détruit pas l'esthétique de la nature.Superbement intégré aux couleurs de la roche avec un bon POV pour nous montrer cela.

un p'tit coup de zoom cette fois pour bien se rendre compte à quel point ce village est incrusté dans la falaise, on a vraiment en France des villages qui sont incroyables !

Hello Joël.

Fantastique comme ces bâtiment sont collés à la paroi, c'est vraiment impressionnant, ce sancuaire est mangigique, de nombreux détails très intéressants, ils ils ont de la place ces habitants de cette commune, 12 habitants au KM2, ils sont au calme.

Le site de Rocamadour est réellement exceptionnel (et me rappelle un peu celui de la fortresse de Predjamski Grad). La perspective adoptée réprésente bien la facon dont les batiments se jumellent avec la roche.

En fait, je ne connais Rocamadour que par la chanson! Quel endroit incroyable! Absolument magnifique... et tu l'as bien mis en valeur depuis ce PdV. Les textures et couleurs sont super, netteté irréprochable.
La maison en haut a gauche est carrément accrochée a la falaise!

Joel, this is awesome, it looks like a model train set it is just pasted on the side of the cliff it seems. Great pov on this one, the looking up perspective would not show the same thing for sure. Great capture.
