Built from the twelfth to the seventeenth century by a powerful family of barons, the castle of Castelnau ordered Haut-Quercy in an area rich valleys bordering the county of Toulouse, County of Auvergne, the Viscount of Turenne and the Duchy of Aquitaine.
He kept his great extent, the result of several building campaigns.
It is from 1100 that the first barons erected a fort on the model of the "new manors" dominated by a military tower and surrounded by a castle and town.
The primitive fortress were kept the stately home and the square tower.
Seat of a feudal power more powerful and rich thanks to alliances, the castle was constantly enlarged and fortified.
It is particularly adapted to artillery in the fifteenth century.
And proved he impregnable behind its imposing walls equipped with indoor ranges, the wide gap with a false bray and high curtain to walkway connected by circular corner towers.
A large part of the defensive system is still visible.
In the seventeenth century it was embellished with richly decorated rooms, tall windows, portico galleries and balconies of honor.
After the death of the last Baron of Castelnau in 1715, the castle underwent a long period of deterioration.
It ended in 1896 with the tenor of the Opéra Comique Jean Moulière who bought the castle and began to restore it.
He recreated, in addition, original designs in seven rooms of the castle by installing a large collection of furniture and art objects from different eras.
He made a donation to the state upon his death in 1932.
The monument is currently open to the public by the National Fund for historic monuments and sites.

Une belle lumière chaude éclaire cette pièce d'architecture et ici mon regard est également irrésistiblement attiré par ce volatile à gauche dans le ciel.A côté du calvaire un chien cherche ses repères!il est dans la diagonale de la bête à plume mais il ne s'est aperçu de rien.

The inquisitive dog in the fg animates the shot and provides a fine focal point. I like the warm colours from the late afternoon light and the superb sharpness and nice warm cold colour contrast between the red and blue. The bird top left also adds interest. Tfs!

Il y a bien à voir sur cette photo: le chateau, la croix, le chien et l'oiseau dans l'opposé de la diagonale.
Tu as su capter l'instant magique ou les pierres se sont enflammées, mais aussi un peu plus avec ce cadrage.

The castle is very beautiful, specially with this golden light and the dog in foreground is a very nice detail and gives life to the place!
