This is another view of the medieval Castle of the city of Foix (Ariège), with a different perspective than the previous one that you can see in my TE album. If you find some architectural anomaly in this photo you're completely right ! The slate roof you can observe on the background tower has nothing to do with medieval architecture. It has been added during the XIXth century while the castle was restaured, by an architect who was the son-in-law of the well known Violet-le-duc (responsible of the preservation of Carcassonne city, for example). This familly of architect is also well-known for this strange practice consisting in adding rooves on medieval towers... Note that, when the castle had a defensive role (during the middle age), such a roof would not have been very usefull to observe enemies progression and eventually to throw them all sorts of projectiles that were used as weapons during this period.
