Photographer’s Note

A view of the Pont Vieux or Old Bridge at Albi looking towards the district of Sainte-Madeleine, which grew up in the 11th century on the other side of the River Tarn from the cathedral following the building of the bridge, which replaced a ford located close by.

The Pont Vieux is still in use today almost a thousand years after its initial construction. It was originally built in stone in 1035, then clad with brick. Its stands on 8 arches and is 151 metres long. In the 14th century, it was fortified, reinforced with a drawbridge and houses were built on the piers.

Picture taken on a damp rainy day.
