Photographer’s Note

Between the fortified district of Albi and the district of Castelviel, a bridge was thrown over the Tarn in the 12th sc. This bridge arch remains one of the oldest brick bridge in France. This bridge was the wealth of the city through its toll.
The old bridge, 151m long, is based on eight arches. In 1035 an assembly composed of Viscount Trencavel, ecclesiastical dignitaries of the Albigenses and neighboring dioceses, decides its construction.

Built around 1040, "for the common benefit of the city and the utility of the Albigenses, the bridge allowed the district to develop the right bank, called Faubourg du Bout du Pont or the Madeleine and expand trade.
In 1766, batteries and arches were damaged by flooding. This bridge owned homes, have now disappeared from this flood.
