"Saint-Martin du Froid" oratory, Cambon-et-Salvergues.
One sight.
Other sight.
This chapel is mentioned at the 15th century, “San Marty d'al Frech”, on the lands of the lord of Olargues.
Like other chapels in inhospitable places, it was used and is still used as reference mark, and shelter.
Located on the plateau of Espinouze at 1124 m of altitude, it is built out of local stone, and covered with roofing stones.
Small, its length is of 10 m for a 2.50 m and 3.50 m height width.
Restored, then blessed solemnly in 1886, it was again restored of 2004 to 2007.
It dominates the CARROUX mountain and the canyon of HÉRIC, and the valleys of the ORB and Jaur rivers. The panoramic sight goes beyond Béziers and Narbonne, to the Mediterranean.
_ The CARROUX MOUNTAIN, 2414 hectares, is a plateau of average altitude of 1000 m, culminating with 1091 m. Of alpine nature with his sharp-edged peaks and its precipice, it offers up to 3000 m of climbing, and many kilometers of superb paths.
_ The fast variations of altitude and the temperatures explain a very diversified flora, holm oaks, cane-apple bushes, willows, poplars, châtaigners, ashes, beeches, brooms, heathers, ferns, coniferous tree, foams, lichens.
_ Fauna is very varied, of the squirrel to wild boar while passing by the roe-deer, the trouts, 247 species of birds. One can see moving the golden eagle and the fawn-coloured vultures. Moreover, the solid mass of Caroux with more than 1000 individuals, counts the most important population of France, moufflons of Corsica.
_ The HÉRIC CANYON, "Les Gorges d'Héric".
A spellbinding and poetic course led to the hamlet of Héric to 514 m of altitude, after having crosses Héric brook by the footbridge “des soupirs","of the sighs”, and walked on the "Sentier des Gardes", “Path of the Guards”, to the "gouffre du Cerisier", “pit of the Cherry tree”, then traversed a sloping path.
_ ORB RIVER is a French coastal river of 150 km. After having taken its source to 884 m, in the mounts of Escandorgue, with the Bouvial mount in Aveyron, it runs in the department of Herault to throw 15 km after Béziers, in the Mediterranean at the seaside resort of Valras-Beach.
Cambon-et-Salvergues is a french commune, located in the department of the Hérault of the Languedoc-Roussillon area, populated of 74 Cambonais in 1999, distributed out of 50 km², that is to say 1 Hab./km².
The Commune is located on the Mounts of Espinouse, in the perimeter of the Regional natural park of High-Languedoc. It is sprinkled by Agout, which takes its source there.
_ Created in 1973, the Regional natural park of High Languedoc, Parc Naturel Régional du Haut Languedoc, is located on average mountain, including 92 communes of the departments of Herault and of the Tarn, that is to say 82000 inhabitants out of 260.000 hectares.

Bon dimanche.

Hello Joel,
I like all the views you've presented but for me this one is the best. The light is soooo beautiful, and your composition superb.
I love the way you have used the two trees to fill the frame along with the tiny chapel.
A glorious shot.
Regards
Peter

Hello Joël,
The misty atmosphere in the background creates a pleasing mood for this fine composition. I like the shadow play from the trees and the building itself. Good colours and sharpness.

Hi Joël,
While looking at your pictures, I must admit that I always look at the map view first, for future planning... This is indeed another very beautiful place and also a very well composed picture!
Kind regards

Bonjour Joel
