Mountain-ash in light.
The mountain-ash or rowan, is common on the slopes of the mountain of Aigoual, where one notices in this season the ripening of his bunches of orange and red fruits.
Its fruits persist a long time on the tree in winter, and thus constitute a reserve of food for the birds which appreciate them.
The Cevennes are mountains, part of the Massif-Central, extending in the districts of Lozere and Gard, whose culminating points are the peak of Finiels in Lozere to 1699 m, the Aigoual mount in Gard with 1567 m.
The Mount Aigoual is a granitic mountain, culminating point to 1567 m of Gard and second culminating point of Lozere after the mount Lozere 1702 m, is a south-eastern projection of the Massif-Central mountain. It is remarkable by its panorama, its climatology. In clear weather, one discovers on 300 km of ray, the Mediterranean, the mount Lozere, the Mounts of the Cantal, the Pyrenees, the Alps.
One discovers there the top close of Portalet of 1565 m, and of course the large causses and the surrounding Cevennes.
The watershed between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean crosses the summit part. Several rivers take there their source of which Herault.
A weather station was built of 1887 to 1894, a such strong castle. Its weather observatory is the last in France, being occupied by the men. The climatic conditions are very hard, Aigoual recoit on average 2,5 m of rain per annum. In more than one table of orientation, the station proposes a museum on the history of meteorology.
The climatic conditions are very hard, Aigoual receives on average 2,5 m of rain per annum.
Some statements records:
Maximum temperature: 28,7 °C on August 11, 2003, minimal: -28°C in 1956.
Maximum speed of the wind: 171 km/h on average on a day, gusts exceeding 360 km/h on November 1, 1968.
Quantity of maximum rain of 24 hours: 607 mm enter on October 30, 1963 to 6 p.m. and on October 31, 1963 to 18h.
Maximum height of fresh snow cumulated in 1 year: 10,39 meters (winter 1995-1996).
Numbers average annual days of freezing: 144; days of heat 25 °C: 0; days of rain: 170; days of strong wind 16 m/s: 265; days of fog: 241; days when the ground is covered with snow: 118.
It is also the place of Metropolitan France where the most important office pluralities of rain over short periods are recorded, in particular during the "Cevennes episodes" in autumn. The strongest annual office plurality, 4 015 mm was recorded in 1913.

Hi Joel.
Pure composition, this one. The photo is very simple in a way, yet you have made very good use of the distance between the sunlit mountain ash branches and the red bunches, the pines further out, and then the deep valley. The opposite steep wall is hazy and has well defined shadows. I think it was wise to not include the sky. It's a delightful and balanced composition which really creates the right atmosphere.
Regards,
Andrew

Hi Joël,
This photo is of a particular great interest to us, as we are planning a short trip to France in middle of October. It will just be about a week and I have been looking very carefully at all the TE pictures from here (mostly yours). There is also another place I find quite interesting, La Vernarède, at bit north of Alès. Do you know this area? It is similar in landscape type to Valleraugue? This is definitely a very beautiful area and the photo is great!
Kind regards
Gunnar

Jolie composition!
