In July I was able to visit Pont du Gard in Southern France for a few hours on my way to the Spanish border. This incredible ancient structure is one of the architectural wonders of France and Western Europe. The structure passes over the River Gard and forms a small section of a 50km Roman aqueduct. The bridge section here is about 275m long and nearly 50m tall above the water below. In its 1,900+ year history it has survived earthquakes, wars, decay and weathering to remain standing in 2012. A stylised version of the bridge appears on the reverse of the five Euro banknote. It really was an awe-inspiring sight, one of the most memorable from my visit to France. The clear summer weather and morning light brought out the best in the masonry.

Welcome back from your travels, it certainly looks like you had a ball. What a beautifully composed photo. The symmetry and repeating shapes are magnificent and we get two for the price of one with those marvellously rendered reflections. great job and welcome home.

The reflections on the water of the river are assets to the composition. The length of the river is giving depth to the scene. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the architecture of the bridge. The good luminosity is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.
