Photographer’s Note

A "modern" building seen between two columns of the Maison Carrée in Nîmes. The Maison Carrée was built at 1st century BC as a Roman Temple and became a church at Middle Age. It's a museum now.

There is an anecdote about its name. "Maison Carrée" means something like "quadrate (or square?) house" and the fact is that it's not a square but a rectangle. It's because "carré" standed just for a shape with 4 right angles in old french. A "carré long" (long square) was our actual rectangle, and a "carré parfait " (perfect square) was our actual square.
