The Airette lake, Mons

One view.
Other view.

At Mons near the ORB river and the HÉRIC CANYON, the small Airette lake retained by a dam built in 1959, on the stream Rec Grand about 440 meters in the CAROUX MOUNTAIN. A remarkable place on hiking trails.

_The CAROUX MOUNTAIN, 2414 hectares, is a plateau of average altitude of 1000 m, culminating with 1091 m. Of alpine nature with his sharp-edged peaks and its precipice, it offers up to 3000 m of climbing, and many kilometers of superb paths. The fast variations of altitude and the temperatures explain a very diversified flora, holm oaks, cane-apple bushes, willows, poplars, châtaigners, ashes, beeches, brooms, heathers, ferns, coniferous tree, foams, lichens. Fauna is very varied, of the squirrel to wild boar while passing by the roe-deer, the trouts, 247 species of birds. One can see moving the golden eagle and the fawn-coloured vultures. Moreover, the solid mass of Caroux with more than 1000 individuals, counts the most important population of France, moufflons of Corsica.

_HÉRIC CANYON, "Les Gorges d'Héric". A spellbinding and poetic course led to the hamlet of Héric to 514 m of altitude, after having crosses Héric brook by the footbridge “des soupirs","of the sighs”, and walked on the "Sentier des Gardes", “Path of the Guards”, to the "gouffre du Cerisier", “pit of the Cherry tree”, then traversed a sloping path.

_ The ORB, coastal river, takes its source at 828 meters of altitude, close to the site “Font d'Orb”, in limit of the communes of Cornus in Aveyron departement, and Romiguières in Hérault departement, in dolomitic limestones of "Causse du Larzac". It runs in the departement of Aveyron, then in the department of Hérault, and flows in the Mediterranean sea at Valras-Plage, after a course of 136 km, and the crossing of a catchment area of 1585 km². Its flow can pass from a minimal flow of 1.4 m³/s to a maximum flow of 1630 m³/s. Orb river description.

MONS is a french municipality, located in the department of the Herault of the Languedoc-Roussillon area, populated of 585 Monstrivalois in 2009, distributed out of 22.3 km², that is to say 25.1 hab./km².

"Mons" means mount, and "Trivalle" means 3 valleys, mount with the three valleys. The commune, made up of the two localities close to Mons and Trivalle, is located in the middle of the REGIONAL NATURAL PARK OF HIGH LANGUEDOC, in the middle of the valleys of Héric, Jaur and Orb rivers.
The commune is strewn with 11 hamlets: Ornac, Les Pradals, la Voulte, Tarassac, La Coste, Fenouillèdes, Courbou, le verdier haut et le verdier bas, Bardou, les Jasses.

The richness of the natural environment of Mons, its tops, its canyons and rivers, its vineyards, is supplemented by an inheritance of 12th and 13th centuries in chapel, mill and houses.

_ Created in 1973, the REGIONAL NATURAL PARK OF HIGH LANGUEDOC, Parc Naturel Régional du Haut Languedoc, is located on average mountain, including 92 communes of the departments of Herault and Tarn, that is to say 82000 inhabitants out of 260.000 hectares.
