Photographer's Note

A major feature of the landscape in the department of Herault, Lake Salagou has been fashioned by a succession of geological events. Originally built to provide irrigation, the lake is now a leisure site and tourist attraction.

Majestic red rocks (the so-called “ruffes”) tower above the waters, and there are great opportunities for mountain-biking, fishing, horse-riding and rambling.

Hello Gunnar,

This is a very appealing photograph. I wasn't at first quite sure just why it was so appealing to me but I think it's because of "crossing" diagonals - the lines of the rock formation running from top left to bottom right and the progression of the little group of walkers running from bottom left to top right.

Nice to see the leader of the group wearing a bright crimson rucksack too! Good colours in general too with the reddish brown rocks (which I thought at first might have been sand dunes but I see that they are indeed rocks) and the green foliage. Excellent details and sharpness and spot-on exposure.

Your much larger "Panoramio" shot gives us a very clear view of a larger vista across this lake.

A well composed action-packed shot. The four people and the dog are nicely strung diagonally across the frame bringing strength to the composition. The red rocks make a superb contrasting background. Good framing also from the surrounding greenery.

Hello Gunnar,

Somehow this scene didn't really seem French, possibly because of the lack of vegetation.
It has a most interesting composition, with opposing diagonals, the stronger being the one created by the figures.
There is also interest from the scenario; why is the figure raising her hand: is the route wrong, is it time for a break, has some injury occured! We are already deep into a story!

Detta är ju en väldigt snygg bild med fina färger och diagonaler. Arm- och benrörelserna ger tydliga besked om en ganska ansträngande vandring. Färgerna är fina och mättade. En väl vald bild.

The color of those rocks looks like the Red Rock Canyon we have in Las Vegas. Nicely captured with good lighting and dof with nice details. The people provided the scale. Well done, tfs.

I believe that these place is very difficult for mountain bikers, but 40 year ago I would this certainly try, but everything is over now, too old!
These three men and one woman and dog make a very difficult stroll, but also the photographer shall have enjoy.
Your picture is real perfect taken, sharpness and clarity be superb.
Nice perspective picture with original colors.

Väldigt intressant landskap. Med så mycket rött behövs knappast någon röd punkt för att lysa upp eller ge en färgklick även du har fått med en mörkrosa rygga. Annars är jag fascinerad av perspektivet. Din utkikspunkt är högt upp, men gruppen nedför dig klättrar trots detta brant uppför. Också kul att du har lyckats fånga alla mitt i steget, vilket även gäller schäferhunden. Tack och ha en bra kväll!

en fint komponerad bild som får mig att tänka på Afrikas röda jord. Jag vet inte hur landskapet runtomkring ser ut men förmodligen är det en fin utsikt efter den branta vandringen. Skarpt och klart foto med fina färger.

Interesting formation, and I like the angle of your shot following this merry band of hikers over it. The small bits of blurred movement you capture - the rear man's foot over the water, the dog's hind legs, the footsteps of the two at center - all enhance the feeling of onward progress here. Perhaps not a immensely difficult climb, but no doubt a good one. Thanks!

That's what I like - a multifaceted landscape - suitable for interesting hiking. The colour of these rocks, of this soil, really is captivating and it provides an enormous contrast to the surrounding greenery. I like how you could place these hikers diagonally in the picture a somehow dynamic view.
