Another Artistic Activity, a photo from Languedoc-Roussillon, South

Photographer's Note

Same artist as here, but now turned in the opposite direction to another motive.

I first thought that he was picturing the the Fort Saint-Elme that you can see at the top of the hill here.

Later, when I checked the photo carefully, it is clear that is motive is the Château Royal, which is much closer and that you can see (from a slightly different position) in the workshop.

The Château Royal was built on Roman foundations and is the center of Collioure’s fortification. Most of it was built during the reign of the Counts of Roussillon and Kings of Aragon between 1376 and 1344. Later on, the Majorcan court lived in the castle. It was then occupied by the spanish until 1642, when it fell into French hands. Vauban had the outer city wall built and the rampart flattened (nowadays it is a carpark).

It must be great to draw like that. I'm afraid I have no talent for it all as I found out at school very many years ago! This is a great capture of the artist at work. The composition has a very pleasing balance to it and is well lit. Excellent point of view. Splendid realisation from both artists!

En mycket välkomponerad och välexponerad bild. Konstnären verkar inte talanglös fast det är ju lite synd att man inte själv ser motivet. Men det gör inte så mycket eftersom bilden är bra ändå. Mycket fina färger och bra balans mellan konstnären nere till vänster och kullen uppe till höger. WS-bilden ser lite överskärpt ut.

This is the kind of shot I like where the concentration of a person at his work is depicted. Here, it is even better as we can see the subject, the artist and it's work at the same time. Very well done with great colors and excellent sharpness.

Hello Gunnar - Excellent shot. I like the way you have framed the artist and not only show the fine work he produces but also the careful way in which he works. Hello Gunnar,

This, I think, is an even better picture than your last one of this artist - and that one was superb!

Here we see him close up and can see his hands at work in forming a very painstaking representation of the château. There is great connection too between his gaze and his paper/canvas and we can also appreciate the distant view in perfect clarity.

Lovely true colours, lovely lighting (especially on the artist's clothing and face), perfect exposure, fabulous depth of field and exquisite sharpness throughout.

Your workshop picture is also technically excellent with good composition but, gosh, the sea looks far too cold to be bathing in it!

an intersting peek over the artist's shoulder.Nicely exposed with good sharpness. I like the fine detail of artists shirt, hat and hands.But try as I may, I cannot match the sketch with what is in the landscape?

Fotografering innebär att man måste göra val. Jag är ganska säker att på att ett foto som inkluderat det som konstnären avbildar inte hade varit bättre än denna bild. Detta eftersom bilden är väldigt välkomponerad. Jag tycker särskilt bra om den diagonala linjen som bergsidan utgör och som fortsätter i konstnärens hatt. Du gjorde givetvis helt rätt i att i första hand tänka på kompositionen. Tack för titten och trevlig helg!

P.S. Din fråga om min rävbild. När man fotograferar vilda djur har man sällan möjlighet att ta mer en bra bild. De är oftast i ständig rörelse och försvinner snabbt. Det gäller att ha kameran beredd, koll på kamerainställningarna, trycka av i rätt ögonblick och också ha litet tur.

I noticed right away that the scene of the drawing is not visible here. Well framed shot giving room for front and background. Compact camera makes it easier to fit bot on depth of field, even on f/4. Beautiful place, is that a windmill on the slope?

your excellent composition makes this photo very comprehensive and interesting, the superb depth, sharpness, natural colours and lighting make it amazingly vivid. That's the point of view any of us would chose to watch both the painter's work and his subject. I nearly expect him to move his hands or turn around. Det kan tyckas att det räcker att ta en bild av slottet och du är klar. Men inget fotografi, dock inte ge en sådan vacker anläggning och rikedomen i konstnärens fantasi som en bild målad på duk. Mycket väl illustrerade verk av konstnären. Stort värde.
