Photographer’s Note

Hi, this is my first post on Trekearth.

A long time ago, before the Romans, men have understood that this rock, next to the Atax river (now called the Aude) was a strategic place. Between the Montagne Noire and the Pyrenees, the city of Carcassonne is located on the major road between the Atlantic ocean and the Mediterranean sea.
I like to imagine that the first occupants of the place arrived to it following the river from its mouth on the Mediterranee (next to the place called Cabanes de Fleury).
That’s why I wanted to have on the same picture the Cité de Carcassonne and the Aude river.
Taken from the old bridge, from where you have a great view on the medieval town.
