Photographer's Note

Slept by sun on the City of Carcassonne.

The City of Carcassonne is a medieval architectural ensemble which is in the French city of Carcassonne in the department of the Aude, the region of Languedoc-Roussillon. She is situated on the right bank of the Aude, in the southeast of the current city.

This strengthened medieval city, the origins of which go back to the Gallo-Roman period, owes its fame to its double surrounding wall, reaching near 3 km in length and containing fifty two tours, which dominates in a spectacular way the valley of the Aude. The City also includes a comtal castle and the basilica Saint-Nazaire.

Saved from the destruction by the action and the tenacity of the archaeologist Jean-Pierre Cros-Mayrevieille, then restored in the XIXth century in a sometimes debated way
