Photographer's Note

Avignon has a primarily medieval flavor, though it was settled much earlier than that. Rocher des Doms, the highest place in town, was once the site of a Bronze Age settlement; now it's a terraced public garden with great views over the city and surrounding area. Avignon was the seat of the popes during much of the 14th and early 15th centuries and houses the grand and well-preserved Palais des Papes (Popes' Palace) as well as the Pont St.-Bénézet--the bridge made famous by the children's song "Sur le Pont d'Avignon." The Palais des Papes and the bridge now form part of a UNESCO World Heritage site in Avignon's historic center. There is an excellent museum of local Roman and Gallic sculpture (Musée Lapidaire) and if you look hard enough there are even some "real" Gallo-Roman ruins around the corner from the Place de l'Horloge, or main square, which is a lively center of modern life in Avignon. The square takes its name from the 14th- and 15th-century clock tower built into the 19th-century Hôtel de Ville, or Town Hall, that overlooks the square.

A most magnificent sight over the clock & bell tower, built some 600 years ago, and looks fabulous and well cared nowadays.
Golden evening light, or should I write morning light - enable us to see clearly it's Ghotic curves, small turrets and yet every stone on it's wall.

piekny powrot do Avignonu.Wieza zegarowa jest naprawde piekna,jeszcze bardziej w polaczeniu z tym niezwyklym swiatlem "ocieplajacym" cala scene.Znakomity kadr i zblizenie na wieze.Bardzo mi sie podobaja tego typu kompozycje.Wykonalas super prace tutaj znajdujac nie tylko swietna perspektywe,ale i potrafiac wykorzystac tak niezwykle swiatlo jakie mialas.Calosc daje naprawde wspanialy efekt.

Excellent colours of the evening sun on the brick walls of the clock tower. The photograph has clarity and depth. The saturation of the colours is wonderfully expressive.
The contrast is appropriate - with the light blue sky in the background.
There is a boldness and solidity in this photograph.
Like the fine black borderline.

Really nice shot, I just love the way the golden light illuminating the clock tower. Making it shined. Very nice close up with good details on the texture of the wall and good symetrical composition, the leaves adds some natural element into the composition.

Yes I always remember Avignon as being the home of the Popes. What a wonderful piece of architecture you have captured and how well you have photographed it. The details are excellent, I like the use of the vertical frame with the tight cropping and the golden light is just magic.
