Photographer’s Note
The turret of Submarine Casabianca is opposite from the commercial port of Bastia. It was launched on 2 February 1935 in Saint Nazaire.
The submarine escaped from the port of Toulon where the SS enters the city on 27 November 1942. Tracked by aircraft of the Luftwaffe, he succeeded in winning the high seas, through the Mediterranean and makes a triumphant entrance in the port of Algiers on 30 November.
His pacha is John who Herminier The beard of the armistice has reset its building and preserve fuel. The submarine joined the Free Forces fighting in Africa. It will have an important role in the liberation of Corsica on 9 September 1943. By December 1942, he will supply weapons the Corsican maquis. It is called by the Germans: "The submarine ghost".
Its operations in the Mediterranean, including missions and supply routes of the Resistance in Corsica has become legend. It runs on 22 December 1943 UJ 6076 German patrol off Cape Sicié, severely damaging the ship Italian Chisone December 28 1943 and the German patrol UJ 6078 on 8 June 1944. Both buildings are attacked off Cape Camarat.
Modernized at Philadelphia in the United States from August 1944 to March 1945 he sailed another two years before being "special reserve" on 1 December 1947 due to budgetary restrictions. Casabianca the list is dropped on 12 February 1952 and then scrapped in 1956. His booth is recovered and shipped to Bastia where he is still on display opposite the port of commerce.
Its name is due to Luce de Casabianca, born in Vescovato (Corsica), hero of Aboukir on 10 August that was scuttled in 1795, with her son aged 12, on his ship L'Orient, to avoid capture. Yet until 1934, it carried the name in homage to Casablanca in Morocco landing in 1907.

Bonsoir Marie,
Sylvain
