Salvation islands are a group of small islands, in front of Kourou : Ile Royale, île Saint Joseph and île du Diable better known as Devil's Island. The islands were used as a french penal colony from 1852 onwards, earning them a reputation for harshness and brutality. Papillon was imprisoned here for 9 years.This system was gradually phased out and has been completly shut down since 1953. Nowadays the islands are a popular tourist destination.

Ben l'image dirait plutôt paradis....mais ta légende laisse dubitatif.
Entre noyade et apéritif amuse gueule pour quinquin j'ai du mal a choisir.....

mangigique vue, ces palmier, avec ce hamac, c'est pas encore l'heure de la sièste, mais là je me laisserai aller de suite, superbe.

C'est vrai qu'on a du mal a imaginer qu'il se soit passé de telles atrocités dans un endroit aussi paradisiaque...
Le hamac est une note bien accueillante pour entrer dans ton image ;-)

Hello Pascal,
It's quite strange when you think of criminals, murderers and thieves being imprisoned on this island, which is obviously full of beauty and nature. Your image reflects a real sense of rest and tranquility, which is at opposites to it's past history. I like the inclusion of the hammock, and the distant small island. Very well captured.

jolie compo, le cadrage est bien trouvé, bien équilibré, c'est contrasté, c'est beau tout simplement, même si la résidence de Satan ce trouve en face ;)

yes, indeed, what an irony - using those gorgeous places for things like you described in your note...Now that it's quite safe though, I wish I was there, be it hell or not!
Always nice to see a scanned print for me, i love the colours here...
