Photographer’s Note

Sanned form a print taken with a Canon Al1

Salvation islands are a group of small islands, in front of Kourou : Ile Royale, île Saint Joseph and île du Diable better known as Devil's Island. The islands were used as a french penal colony from 1852 onwards, earning them a reputation for harshness and brutality. Papillon was imprisoned here for 9 years. This system was gradually phased out and has been completly shut down since 1953. Nowadays the islands are a popular tourist destination.
