Etretat is best known for its cliffs, including three natural arches and the pointed "needle". These cliffs and the associated resort beach attracted artists including Eugène Boudin, Gustave Courbet and Claude Monet, and were featured prominently in the 1909 Arsène Lupin novel The Hollow Needle by Maurice Leblanc.
Two of the three famous arches are seen from the town, the Porte d'Aval, and the Porte d'Amont. The Manneporte is the third and the biggest one, and cannot be seen from the town.
Guy de Maupassant (1850–1893) spent most of his childhood in Étretat, at "Les Verguies". In 1882 he wrote a short story for Le Gaulois entitled "The Englishman of Étretat" (L'Anglais d'Étretat), based on encounters in 1868, as a house guest of G. E. J. Powell, with the English poet Algernon Charles Swinburne, whom he had helped save from drowning. In 1883 he built his own house in Étretat, "La Guillette", in the Mediterranean style in "Le Grand Val", since renamed rue Guy-de-Maupassant. Jean-Baptiste Faure (1830–1914), the great French operatic baritone whose career centred on Paris and London, also owned a villa there. (From Wikipedia).
On TE, there are 420 photos (!) of just two cliffs: this one and another behind me. What is the sense to post other one??But I was there too, like so many people before, and this is the 421st photo from Etretat. I hoped to make blue hour shots, came in the afternoon, even with tripod, but it was cloudy and a bit rainy, so no results.

The clarity is quite superb. I like the point of view and the sweeping perspective toward the cliffs. The image is evenly lit and the colours excellent despite the grey sky.
It remains quite mild here at the moment at around 9 or 10 degrees. I don't envy your freezing temperatures:-)

Well, two of all those pictures from Etretat are mine, so I think these pictures are also nice reminder of our days there.I recall all the colourful boats here but not that ugly hut, in a severe need of painting. But both your pictures here are very good. Did you walk up to the little chapel in the WS picture? We did...

Wonderful composition with this beautiful beach, which these very clear rock cliffs gives a special touch, the kayak with its bright colors, are a very effective touch of chromaticism in the image.
Nice color, in these natural shades, despite the grayish day.
Also both sharpness, such as lighting are great.
Well taken photo. I Like
Enjoy a nice day.

I think Etretat look interesting enough to allow for a photo #421. There will always be a new feature, a different light, a combination of colours making each photo unique. I like the mild but still very vivid colours created by the dull weather. A great day for enjoying the view along the beach, if not for swimming.

un classico tra i paesaggi della Francia, sempre molto bello e, in questo caso, reso più originale dalla presenza delle canoe molto colorate.
