Photographer’s Note

We are at Mareuil-sur-Ourcq small picturesque village at the edge of the canal.
I am located vis-a-vis the church Sainte Euphémie: XII° and XIII° century.
The Canal of Ourcq was started in the XVII° century has a 110 km length, it crosses two areas: the France Island (Paris region) and Picardy.
The canal was completed starting from Paris, of the downstream upstream. It ensures a food of water Paris, while allowing a navigation of freight. This one was established starting 1813 between Claye-Souilly and Paris.
Realized in two thirds during the final fall of the First Empire, this channel was completed only in 1821. Since 1983, the individual pleasure sailing and the boats of transport of passengers replaced transport by barge.
