Photographer’s Note
Running at the break of dawn...
Every year appox. 200 teams start the world's longest non-stop estafette/marathon. The money we get from sponsors goes to the charity organisation: Roparun (also the name of this run). The teams all run from Paris (France) to Rotterdam (Netherlands), a total of 530 km. This year the teams started on saturday the 3rd of june and arrived on monday the 5th.
This picture was taken on the first morning when we were in the middle of nowhere. I just loved this scene with some runners from another team somewhere in the distance on this lonely, lonely road. It was all so quiet and still. The whole experience was just fantastic and unique: waking up in the middle of nowhere, in almost complete rest and silence (not even hearing birds) and while you have a first cup of thea you see other teams approaching in the distance (on their way to run another 450 km. to Rotterdam).
Amazing! I really hope this picture can do it a little justice.
Really seemed like the world was waking up underneath our feet and that's what I tried to capture in this photo. Working with the light was a bit of a problem here (since it was misty/clouded) but I think I somewhat succeeded. Only thing I'm not sure about is the roadsign on the right, should I have cropped it out?
This picture was just outside Libermont (about 60 to 70 km north of Paris).

Hoi Lieke,
Goeie note! Even voor de duidelijkheid: je moet als team toch de afstand volbrengen en niet iedereen individueel? Toch? Zowiezo diep respect!
Ik hoop meer hardloop gerelateerde foto's van je te zien!

Hi Lieke, I opened this thumbnail because I was curious, as there was so much empty space on the foreground. Now I understand better why you posted it. Yes, the Roparun just arrived in Rotterdam, and I must applaud for the fact that you took part in that.
The picture could be a bit more attractive if the horizon would have been less centered. But i also understand that you wanted to render the early morming atmosphere of the lonely runners.
Good note.

Dear Lieke Muller,
I feel normal but comfortable morning air in this shot.
this seems a typical country road in France, and I spent many times on it. distant car and runners are the background for me, sorry...
I like this misty perspective very much.
thank you,
Akihisa
