Photographer’s Note

Opal Coast, French coastal region around Belgium, is opposite to the cliffs of the South East of England, bordering the North Sea and English Channel.
Edouard Lévêque, touquettois famous, painter, writer, botanist, who is the inventor of the name "Opal Coast" to name the coastline between The Crotoy and Equihen-Plage. Of all the names proposed, is the only one that has survived and has since Touquet-Paris-Plage, the "Pearl of the Côte d'Opale.

Today the name "Opal Coast" includes a part of the arrondissement of Dunkirk and Calais, Saint-Omer, Boulogne-sur-Mer and Montreuil-sur-Mer.
Côte d'Opale is marked by the presence of two major cliffs:

* Cape Blanc-Nez, peaking at 132 m
* Cap Gris-Nez, reaching 50 m.

The relief gives way to sandy beaches, interrupted successively by:

* Bay Canche,
* Bay of the Authie.
