Photographer’s Note

First one of a serie in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais where I've just spent a few days.

Béthune is the capital of the "Artois" region. Béthune has a beautiful and rich architectural heritage, mainly situated around the "grand'place" : the belfry (47 meters high), the typical buildings and the Saint-Vaast church. It was a rich city where the farmers sent thier products and didn't became a mining city at century 19, as a lots of cities around did. During the mining period, Bethune stayed a centre for shops and services.
