Photographer’s Note

I continue my walk at the time of the meeting YOU in Lille with the Old Stock Exchange. A photograph that I posted some time ago under a a little different angle and which was removed due to an inadequate framing. I reposte thus another version of this superb building.
Old Lille Stock Exchange, named thus since the construction of the Chamber of commerce and Industry in the years 1910, is without question the most prestigious monument of the city. Located between the Town square and the Place of the Theater, it is one of the witnesses of the intense economic activity which proceeded in Lille during the Great century.
The building, quadrangular, is in fact a fitment of 24 identical residences which contain what one names the interior Court, place where secondhand booksellers, florists, players of failures, flâneurs and tourists give each other appointment.

One finds a typical architecture of the Flemish Rebirth of the XVIIe century, which mixes the color with the exubérance with the forms: fruit garlands, horns of plenty, pilasters and piers richly ornamented… Each carved body acting as pilaster is a pagan representation of the commercial life inhabitant of Lille.
I wish you an excellent evening
