Lille: Grand Place

Yesterday I visited Northern France and the city of Lille, just for one day. A lovely and sunny day, as you can see here on this photo from the heart of Lille.

Lille (or Rijsel in Dutch) is located in the far North of France, close to the border with Belgium. It's the capital of the region Nord-Pas de Calais and has a population of 226,800. This photo was taken at la Grand Place or La Place du Général-de-Gaulle. In the foreground you can see La Vieille Bourse with in the background the belfry of the Chambre de commerce.

fraaie ansicht van Rijsel Lars.
mooie kleuren en contrast hier. uitstekende verdeling. Het weer ziet er goed uit. Stond daar ook die gemene koude wind. goed werk.

Hi Lars,
you were so lucky with that wonderful light, Lars! The entire composition is characterized by this light that illuminates the buildings so beautifully. Colors and sharpness are excellent too. The only pity is the “black spot” created by the group of people all wearing dark coats. But it is a wonderful image anyway. TFS!

You had a nice sky for your visit, which gives a lively atmosphere. I am not familiar with Lille, but apparently the architecture is not so different from Belgium (which i not very far away). Different countries, but same style.

Hej Lars, een voor mij bekende en gewaardeerde plaats - het oude centrum van Lille. De compo is mooi in evenwicht en de rijke kleuren en details doen de architectuur echt hier. Het licht is om van te smullen ook - mooie plaat !

You used the exceptional light as well as possible. The sky is of a blue that believed possible only in the south of France:) Your work is of a superb quality, in particular, the natural clearness and colors. I would have rectified the prospect a little, but it was not really necessary.

Nice view of the Grand Place with the beautiful traditional buildings. The side light illuminates them very well and the details are sharp. I also like those shadows in the fg that enhance the main theme.

Hello Lars,

The building appears to be Baroque style, highly decorated. The long shadows of the late afternoon sun makes the square so attractive. I imagine the small cluster of people are on a tour, listening to their tour leader. They all appear to be looking in the same directions. Thanks for the informative note.

This type of scenario, a square surrounded by beautiful architecture, they will always be very attractive and traditional, especially in Europe.

I like the frame and the proper use that we have given to the intensity of illumination, to avoid under-exposure. People give life to the point, and the composition is well balanced.

Olá Lars, in the thumbnails I noticed some architectural similarities between this photo and your last one, although they are from diferent countries. Great set of historical facades with good light and colors. I like the people animating the square.
