Heh, tonight was one of those rare times when I took my tele lens out with me to make some snaps around the Eiffel Tower. My tele lens is nothing to brag about, but from time to time it does deliver some lovely captures.
What you see in this photo of mine is of course the Eiffel Tower, or the very top part of it. The tower itself is 324 metres (1063 feet) high, weighs 10,600 tons and at high winds it has a sway of 12 cm at most. Another interesting fact is that its height varies up to 15 cm depending on temperature (you know, its physics - during hot days those metals expand and in winter it's the opposite of course). The dimensions of the Eiffel Tower at the base are 125m x 125m.
The Eiffel Tower was built for the International Exhibition of Paris of 1889 commemorating the centenary of the French Revolution. Of the 700 proposals submitted in a design competition, Gustave Eiffel's was unanimously chosen. However it was not accepted by all at first, and a petition of 300 names - including those of Maupassant, Emile Zola, Charles Garnier (architect of the Opéra Garnier), and Dumas the Younger - protested its construction.
The construction of the tower lasted for 2 years (1887-1889), 300 steel workers were working in place.
The tower was almost torn down in 1909, but was saved because of its antenna - used for telegraphy at that time.
When built, the Eiffel Tower was the tallest building in the world and remained so until 1930. Named after its designer, engineer Gustave Eiffel, it is a premier tourist destination, with over 6 million visitors per year. The tower's elevators travel approximately 100,000 km each year.

Beautiful picture, excellent point of view and the zoom looks great. I like the lights and the saturation , the contrast looks very well and the sharply taken was really nice.

Only six points, Lina?
This one and the other picture of the same tower are not only good pictures of the most famous tower in all Paris: are original.
Are good and original.
Even I would say very good (technically is fantastic... a nocturnal picture with amazing colours and an excellent composition) and very original.
Note: still I don't understand why only six points (now eight).
