I was initially attracted to this street corner café because of the strong yellow color of the mailbox and red canopy, I thought it made a bold combination. Funny how often the most unassuming objects can take on new life in a different location. Plus, I thought this was a good representation of a typical Parisian scene.
As I was lining up the composition, I noticed an oncoming bicyclist…and so I thought, hey…why not give it a shot and see what happens as he passes by. Trial and error, and sometimes you just get lucky. I’ve taken seemingly hundreds of café/bistro pictures, but this ended up being one of my favorites for the “ghostly” effect due to the simple blur of a speedy rider. And you see, not all spirits are confined to riding the metro…some get out and exercise, unlike myself!? :)
Thanks for stopping by. Have a great weekend everyone.

well managed with this time for the exposure, interesting result with this mysterious ghost, well done.

It is a "typical Parisian scene"., Jason, a corner Cafe' always with people taking their time for a chat or else.
The "ghost-rider" was in very fast cycling through when taken the shot, but added much dynamism to the scene.
made the right choice to add this, otherwise we would see yet "another" Paris corner.
Enjoy a nice weekend,

Indeed the cyclist looks very good. And you are right, you can never be sure of the result when trying something like this. Cafe atmosphere is looks also very inviting.

I love this approach, to "see what happens", it's such fun and can give exciting, predictable or unpredictable results, like in this picture. The presentation of the typical area and daily life scene is very well set up and the cyclist is sweeping through in a fascinating way. He is a very attractive hero, having character and being transparent at the same time. I like very much the colours and the atmosphere and wonder if the other people can see him too:) Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely weekend,

How to turn a common image into an interesting post! We feel the life in Paris in summertime, and the blurred biker adds some blue hue to the other primary colors red and yellow. The sharpness seems to be at the infinite (at left) and we hardly read the posts informations (théatre de la ville and ??????)
have a nice WE

Woosh and he is gone, your bicycle rider. The effect of his high speed passing has rendered this otherwise mundane Paris street scene in to quite an interesting scene with a sense of the dynamic of Paris.
have a great weekend

You could become a case for M Night Shyamalan, seeing ghosts everywhere ;-). There were already some people in and outside the café, which would have made this more than a photo of a yellow mailbox and a red canopy, but the ghost passing by on a spiritual bike made this a whole lot more interesting. Sometimes we take surpisingly good photos just by a coincidence, when something unexpected happens at the moment we press the button, but you managed to foresee the unexpected coincidence. That speaks a lot for your photographic instincts.
Have a nice weekend,

Nice result indeed, although most would be spooked by having phantom cyclists appear in an image, you have made the most of it. Its cool how everybody else stayed so perfectly clear and sharp, which really offsets the effect of the spook bike! Great idea, nicely planned and great result.

I like the trees who centres the coffee(café), there is often a coffee(café) in the corner of a street, why? Can be better seen one! It is true that the red and the yellow draws the attention, the cyclist finally the ghost:-) gives of the originality and it is made a success well
Kiss by far good day my friend of the désert

J'aime beaucoup cette longue exposition avec le cycliste qui passe en vitesse pour ne laisser qu'un flou très esthétique. Le café est beau et bondé et j'aime bien son nom.

The weather does not seem to be that good here, but it makes the café look even more inviting. The red awning and some other red details (including the cycling ghost) add a lot of interest to the capture. A very pleasant daily life street scene.

Hi Jason, very very fast this cyclist to be a ghost in a short time of exposure like your...ehhee..very very original capture, with a great gift in background for a barman like me..ehhe..Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano.

You and I included, we should all exercise. My wellness coach has been getting on my case to lose weight (as though I did not want to) but without exercise it is like one week of progress and two weeks of backtracking.
Good street-corner photo enhanced by the ghost rider.

Ghost rider?or maybe the Flash?:)
I´m not surprised you love the picture.
It´s really fantastic!and the exposure time(or the speed of the cyclist:) seems to be perfect to express the essence of the scene.
Excellent juxtaposition of peaceful Parisian life with the daily race many of us experience everyday.
Take care my friend

I like the ghostly blur against the colourful café. A difficult photo to get right especially at 1/15th sec. Very well done - an original image.
Kind Regards, Ann

so you're onto ghosts and spirts now eh?
watching alot of spooky movies while dog sitting were you? haha
you mentioned how the red awning caught your attention, well theres a reason why they choose that red and black color combo, it works! :)
imagine if it were all black, it would just look like an extension of the building.
and speaking of the mailbox, how come we don't have fun looking mailboxes here in North America?
we lose out on so much haha
i like how we can clearly see the biker, but without the bike! the tires seem to have vanished.
reminds me of the vanishing images on the photos from Back to the Future :)
love those movies.
have a good one!

Hi, my dear friend!
How are you? I hope you are OK. Oh, it was very fast bicyclist, this scene reminds me old photos where some people have seen the souls of dead people. ;) (I do remember one old story).
Are you ready for the next trip?
I hope to see you and Malgo very soon.
emka (102638) 2014-08-10 11:09
Hello Jason, There are some nice colours here, yellow something, red roof and closed umbrellas, and even a woman in matching jacket and caps. But addition of the ghost biker adds interest. And funny he just passes by the lying bike.
WArm regrads Malgo

Hola mon ami parisien
Cafes and Paris, what a charmant subject with the red attractive eye catching awning and umbrellas and yellow mailbox ( still working?)
And the rider ghost add a personal Jason touch and movement at the classical scene
Good exercise and example, sometimes the inspected people ruin a well composed photo and others, like this one, help to obtain something personal
Tres bien fait
Merci par le partage
Less than a month and Russia is waiting for you and your ghost
