Lunch ( dejeuner) Time
On a very hot July day in Paris, after strolling a bit in one of my preferred places, decided to have a rest enjoying the views while choosing what and where to eat (searching in the plan on the site)
While doing it, looked at the people round me and discover that mostly were alone eating, drinking, a few talking but no one was with a phone, tablet, what means that people from Paris are not so connected addicts, or not at lunch time, good for them !
Grande Arche de la Defense
Johann Otto von Spreckelsen and Erik Reitzel designed the Arch of The Defense, as a twenty century version of the Arch Of Triumph, a monument to humanity and humanitarian ideals rather that military victories

bel pov, tutti uniti appassionatamente, single, coppie e ....piccioni, l'ora del pranzo è sacra e tu ne hai ripreso le caratteristiche più originali in un contesto altrettanto originale.

That modern building is pretty interesting and you managed to take an original and very attractive picture of it!
Special regards to the chosen pov, composition and exposure!
TFS - congrats,

Une scène estivale fréquente sur les marches de la Grande Arche où se mêlent pigeons, touristes et personnes prenant leur pause déjeuner. Intéressante composition avec une belle utilisation du graphisme de l'arche.

Beautiful shot made even more interesting by your POV and your note. You were able to show a very modern life and architecture yet, as you mentioned in your note, can also be so detached, if they want to, in the outside world. I love the presence of the pigeons on the steps adding more delight to the photo. Nice work!

nice the snapshot from all these natives and strangers to sit on the stairs of the Grande Arche de la Defense.I like the created texture from the building on the backdrop as the excellent presentation of the lunch time in Paris.

You made a fine combination of interesting architecture and human activities. I am sure that in most cities a majority of the young people sitting in a place like this would be busy with their phones, even when eating or being in somebody's company.

I love the message delivered by your photo very much. It is nice to know that there are still some people who can socialize or simply have a meal without mobile or tablet in their hand.
Also the quality of the photo is amazing in terms of composition and colors. I love the POV you chose to take this photo and which allows to see people sitting on the stairs and impressive buildings behind them.
Great contrast and sharpness.
All the best

This is a brilliant shot, the foreground being filled with the people creates a fine composition of humanity, and the sense of height from the soaring architecture is amazing! The repeating patterns of the building really is a visual treat. I love the muted blue tones of the picture too, gives a feeling that this scene could almost be underwater!
An interesting comment too, it is so nice to see people actually engaging with each other instead of small machines. As I've seen said before, the better we become connected the more it seems to drive us apart. Excellent capture, thanks for sharing.

A very impressive and also quite unusual perspective of the Grande Arche. I really like the graphics of the many crossing lines in this composition. The details are quite sharp and the geometric effect you've brought out is very attractive. The people sitting add a nice human touch in this world of concrete and steel.

A good observation of the people connecting with each other at lunch time rather than needing to be surgically removed from their phones and Ipads! Good sharpness and the overall blue grey color adds interest. Nice repetition of patterns and shapes in the bg building. Tfs!

A very good position for taking this picture. The impressive high-rise is seen from a good angle and all the people on the stairs are adding the necessary life to the scene. Your picture is well composed and all colours are well harmonized. An interesting place, I seem to have mossed this.

maybe there is no reception in this location, but really you found a place with no cell conversing in public. Remarable.
Yet the view under the grand-arch de la-Defense, with people added vivid tone, the archi.details are impressive and the photo is superbly taken from an a skewed angle upon.
Buen fin de semana,

Fine Valentine tribute to humanity, the immense geometrics of the Grande Arche de la Defense dominate with a foreground of relaxing folks on the steps.
Good to visualize the 'Triumph of Life' instead of the military.

how very observant of you,the lack of any visible modern device is perhaps a testament to the people of Paris and their communication skills.
The angle of image gives the scene lots of drama and real interest with the variety of personnel a big plus.
Kind regards Les.

Salut mon ami du Sud,
Well, you had to know I was going to love seeing this one! :)) Yay! This is great...not only for its location, but as you've pointed out...people are actually enjoying their surroundings and not burying their faces in a phone. You've captured probably the most elusive moment in todays world!!
A wonderful low point of view, and a smart framing to highlight the graphic and geometric nature of the arch...all while including the human presence for added emotion and appeal. A super and original presentation of this area, one that I need to return to much sooner than later. ;)
Bon weekend. Sois sage.

This is a wonderful architecture picture.
Excellent POV and composition.
The inclusion of the many people provides a lively impression of the city.
Beautiful also with the many pigeons everywhere between the people.
Best regards, Paul

Hola querida Maria,
people sitting, eating, talking, walking, admiring the architectural landscape. You captured a great scene of daily life and human interest and placed it in a fascinating context. You made the most of your upward point of view and juxtaposed the tranquility of the people to the intricate and dynamic architectural setting. I like how you kept the colours subdued and discreet, setting off the graphical interest of this broad and detailed view. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day,

beautiful composition. I like very much the bend perspective: it is perfectly straight in the left but in the right it makes a nice geometrically effect. Good idea to focus on people here, they add a very nice touch to the modern architecture. Very creative and a spectacular effect!
annjackman (21901) 2014-02-18 23:02
I enjoy this picture very much for its low viewpoint. The hard shapes of the buildings and steps are very well broken by the curved canopy and the people relaxing on the steps. The frame has been filled carefully and makes a pleasing composition. It is also very sharp.
Kind Regards, Ann

This place is a great photo opportunity. You have showed us a nice slice of daily life with the people just 'hanging around' as they say commonly now. This place, thanks to the graphism, actually looks good in B&W as well
Cricri (123694) 2014-02-21 9:03
macjake (70997) 2014-02-22 18:31
very cool shot from La Defense!
don't think i've ever seen this exact point of view before with all these people.
the wall in the bg really adds a special type of visual impact - strong graphical scene!

Dear Maria, I'm not a fan of that place very appreciated by locals and visitors to chill out, talk or read a book, not enough authentic and unique to my eyes.. the architecture is really remarkable and of course it deserves a visit, good global view, greetings
