Photographer's Note

The harmony which reigns here between the nature and the sculpture makes of the necropolis a remarkable outdoor museum of the funeral art of the XIXth century. All the styles are represented. Haussmann vault, the luxurious mausoleum in the classic art, blazing Gothic grave, pompous or simple gravestone, the rarest marble and the delicate wrought irons, the visitor has choice. The cemetery counts numerous monuments signed by the architects and the most representative sculptors of their time. Finally, some graves, because of the "delirious" inspiration of their creators are real curiosities.
