Photographer's Note

Eccentric character sitting on bench in Place du Marché Ste-Catherine, Marais, Paris. He barely moved throughout the time I was there; whether he knew I was taking such an interest in him or not I can't say. All his belongings were in a large bag under the coat next to him: no wonder he didn't want to move too much! It almost looks like his companion. I hope he's got one.

Place du Marché Ste-Catherine is a typical Parisian square in the Marais district (IVme arrondissement): it is an example of how quaint and village-like the Marais can be.

Hi Will. The man and his outer shell. An original and at the same time subtle photo. It seems surreal. People who live on the street, are presented to the public as they are. My compliments on this really strong photo. Rgds, Wolfgang.

Hi Will,
Such an interesting candid, the way he sits, with his hands clasped, gives him a kind of thoughtful elegance, and perhaps heavy things weigh on his mind, with his middle distance stare.
The Marais, is one of my favourite parts of Paris, it really feels like you step into another place there.
I really like these raw kind of tones, classic street photography feel.

Beautiful B & W, strange person it would seem a homeless, it is true they are all a little eccentric, with all their problems I still think they have a great sensitivity to reject this society and reject consumerism and materialism .... I'm not saying that it is the best choice ... but I find them much more sensible to other people well integrated into society...one shot that we can talk hour and hour...
