Photographer’s Note

The church as it is today was built from the twelfth to the sixteenth centuries. It had barely been completed when an extraordinary series of catastrophes befell it. It burned twice, struck by lightning in 1490 and again in 1568 during the Wars of Religion. Pillaging and hurricanes added to the list of its miseries, the ultimate disaster being the collapse of the tower in 1675. The Last Judgement door, with its vivid imagery dating from the thirteenth century, gives access to the ruined part of the nave. Access today is by the south door of the transept. Only the choir, the apse and the chapel of the Virgin have kept their roof vaults.

Bel ensemble de couleur, le bleu du ciel, le vert de l herbe et puis les pierres. On a envie de passer le porche voir ce qui se passe derrière. Je n'habite pas très loin et je ne connaissais même pas l'histoire de cette église qui est pourtant connue dans la région ! Merci pour photofiltre, je l'ai téléchargé et apparement mon ordi a résisté !

Good angle on this magnificent old portal, Philippe. The afternoon sun does a fine job of emphasizing the brown and ochre-toned details of the stonework, and the interplay with the strong green and blue tones adds up to a pleasant total. Interesting notes, too.

This is a very imposing ruin. Despite being in this state the building retains a feel of being a giant structure. These walls are massive and the entrance arch seems massive. The wall on the inside seems to go up forever. If there were a person in here it would be neat but I think they would ruin the sense of a huge scale since I do not think this is as massive as I imagine. So it is better to leave it like this and let the imagination think. The contrast between such a nice day and the nice greens with the dark and weathered stone is impressive and adds that feel of a lost grandeur. And despite its apparently quiet look it has an active and lively atmosphere as one imagines its history.

Je me souviens des précédents posts de cette église quelque peu malchanceuse.
La photo rend très bien les détails, j'aime bien le vert de l'herbe, cela ajoute une touche de couleur.

un très bon angle, cela donne de la hauteur et bien vue la petite touche de bleu de ces coins de ciel qui font ressortir les belle teintes dorées des pierres. De la hauteur et de la profondeur à tavers le porche.

L'angle choisi met bien en valeur l'architecture de cette église, qui a eu de bien grands malheurs.
Beau contraste entre le vert et le bleu, faisant ressortir le gris des pierres.
Finesse des détails.

Cette ruine doit être un endroit magique, surtout à l'intéreur entre ces murs très hauts et ces départs de voute qui supportent le ciel.
Belle compo tout en volume en relief avec de beaux détails.

La vue est superbe et les vestiges architecturaux nous laissent imaginer la beauté de l'édifice!
On ne comprend naturellement pas pourquoi tant de catastrophes se soient abbatues sur cette église. Dieu qu'as tu fait pour elle, pourquoi l'avoir ainsi abandonnée?

Je passe souvent dans le coin pour accèder au massif de fontainebleau. Le choix du cadre est parfait pour mettre en valeur les voutes. Un bout de ciel bleu et un vert claquant apportent de la vie.

It's interesting to look through the old gate and see the interior of this magnificent church covered by freshly green grass. If your first submision of this church in June was monumental, this one is more intimate. Very well done.

Ces vieux murs présentent une qualité texturale incomparable. La précision et la netteté de l'image permettent d'en apprécier totalement la beauté.
