Remains of a Lionheart, a photo from Haute-Normandie, North

Photographer's Note

The name of the city, Les Andelys, comes from the combination of the two towns the Petit and the Grand Andely .
Chateau Gaillard is a famous fortress built by Richard Coeur de Lion in 1197 to control the hills of the Seine river.
I knew the Andelys, my last visit was in 1993 and this point of view of the castle is my first digital picture.

Nice meeting Meeting with my wife Evelyne and our Trekers friends Pascale and Bernard who I thank for making us discover the rest of this beautiful part of Normandy.

joli point de vue sur les ruines de ce chateau formant comme un prolongement naturel de la falaise.
Un bel endroit en effet que j'ai découvert l'année dernière.

Hi Didi,
Very interesting these ruins, I would not live in the house under the cliff, with the possibility that something might fall on the roof. The photo is very nice with good colors and sharpness and excellent POV.

ouh là,ça penche pas un peu sur la droite? J'ai l'impression que ce qu'il reste de ruines va s'écrouler sur la petite maison en bas à droite. Sinon, le site est spectaculaire,j'adore ce chateau perché sur les falaises envahies de verdure.Même si le beau temps n'était pas au rendez-vous,tu as eu la chance d'avoir un rayon de soleil au bon moment,et la photo est bien lumineuse.Comme d'habitude,très bon travail de stitch.

Bonsoir Didi,

La prise de vue du bas vers le haut donne de la profondeur à la composition. L'assemblage des deux photos permet de voir les détails et les couleur du château de Gaillard. Une bonne gestion de la lumière qui fait ressortir les différentes teintes de couleurs. Bonne soirée.

Ravi de te voir de nouveau "sur le terrain"! Ces ruines sont photogéniques et méritaient bien un stich de ta part!Comme Pascale, j'avais un peu une sensation de penché mais j'ai vérifié qu'il n'en était rien.

Hi Didi,

I thought here - the photo without stitching from Didi - but I was wrong, even here two photos stitched. I love such castle ruins on the rocks. They are so romantic and mysterious. Nice to hear that TE-Trekkers still meet, even if they are sometimes rarely seen on TE.

Te revoilà mon gaillard avec un coeur de lion !
Beau et surtout inhabituel POV des ruines de ce château Gaillard.
Le cadrage est généreux avec notamment l'inscription dans le cadre de cette maison à droite au bas des falaises.
Couleurs fidèles sans esbrouffe de cet alliage entre la végétation et la roche crayeuse.
Bien vu, en espérant que tu te requinque bien.

Ravi de t'avoir rencontré ainsi que ton épouse.Et même si le temps n'était pas au rendez vous,nous avons passé une superbe journée. Ici, ton POV et ton cadrage sont bien choisis car ils donnent un très bon rendu de l'implantation du chateau et de sa taille, la maison en bas servant d'échelle. Une très bonne définition et une belle lumière malgré le ciel chargé ce qui fait bien ressortir la pierre.

A good capture of these still impressive ruins. The house down below is well included, helping to give the image a sense of scale. Good colour contrasts and excellent sharpness. Just a pity about the lacklustre sky; something totally beyond the control of the photographer of course.

Il est difficile de croire, quand on contemple l'imposante forteresse, que sa construction n'a duré qu'un an. C'est pourtant un fait historique. On imagine le site grouillant de milliers d'ouvriers, plus de 6000 ! obligés de travailler d'arrache-pied pour parvenir à un tel exploit.

Le format presque carré fonctionne bien pour nous présenter ces ruines perchées sur le haut de la falaise.
Ruines assez impressionnantes et dont le volume est bien restitué grâce à l'assemblage. La maison en bas à droite est bien cachée par les feuillages et semble minuscule...

Hello Didi,

So this fortification dates back to the days of Robin Hood, interesting!
They were clever in using natural formations in the terrain to get the most out of the fortress...
And I notice the house by the foot of the hill, nice!

This is a spectacular shot, and properly presented in a dramatic square formt. Including the small house on the bottom is useful for scale. I wish I had been there to meet you, Pascale and Bernard, and joint the mini-TE group. On my recent cruise, I had the pleasure to get together on August 5 with Ana, José and Gonçalo in Lisbon.

Bonjour Didi,
a lovely presentation of these suggestive ruins perched on the similarly coloured rock. I like very much the full frame and the elevated vantage point, almost at the same height as the antique castle. The greenery is delightful, its tonal range and textures very attractive. I also love the subtle and warm touches of the light and the inclusion of the mysterious stone house just above the lower border of the frame. Congratulations and thank you!
