I have posted a similar version of this mythical place more than five years ago, but in those days, I didn't know that I had to sharpen my images before publishing them on the web...
I also had a naive tendency to oversaturate my colours, as well as manipulating them excessively and in an improvised way.
What I have learned on these pages is priceless and have changed my approach to photography radically.

What a pretty violet-hour photo! It is the stuff of fairy tales, as your title suggests.
Like you, I, too, look at my old stuff and wonder why I oversaturated my photos, I guess it is a phase that one goes through. Indeed, just looking at other people's photos teaches one a lot, not to mention the many useful suggestions I have seen on this site.

I saw similar pictures of Mont Saint Michel and hope to make such wonderful photo. But it was such a disappointment when I came this year to Mont Saint Michel. They construct a new wide road, a lot of trucks, herds of turists. Lucky you to have such marvelous memories. All romantism is gone.
Happy New Year

Dear Andre my friend!
What you mentioned in the first two paragraphs of your note, puts me into shame...if you, one of my ultimate gurus of photography, didn't know how to sharpen and saturate your images, where would that put novices like me? You are a very humble man & that's one of your aspects I admire the most, despite you being a great photographer.
This, as always is a wonderful picture of an iconic landmark which I yearn to visit & yet not been able to despite my numerous trips to Paris! Love the pastel houes & the way its reflected in the not so still water. The crispness and clarity on the MsM itself is electric!
Hope you are doing good...We wish you and your loved ones a fantastic 2014....

your photo is standing out from many others and I would risk an opinion that maybe is one of the best today. The colors and lights make the whole picture a real gem but one cannot underestimate the actual subject - the castle which is extremely pretty itself.
Good POV and perspective.
Thanks for sharing

That's a wonderful picture of that unique and magnificent place!
What else to say about your work that's always impeccable! Anyway, I specially enjoyed the soft colors, exposure and composition!
TFS - congratulations!
A very happy and prosperous 2014!

This is probably the best shot of this well known place I have ever seen here. Love the pink moody which was perfectly captured and very well executed. Simply marvelous presentation. Bravo! All the best in 2014!

hi andre. delicious post for the end of 2013. i also find your note helpful. for the ones open to improvement, photography is not a big issue indeed, you can over-master it in 5 years. might of course be a misinterpretation, but you sound like "i am finished, that's it" in your note. there should be some new challenges in there, or technical perfection is the end? happy 2014!
chawax (20758) 2014-01-03 13:36
Wow, quelle image ! Magnifique instant !

Salut cher Andre'
Happy happy New Year to you and your loved ones, I hope it brings you everything you desire. I'm mesmerised by the beauty of this photo and have somewhere tucked in the back of my mind, that you took it in the illustrious company of Henk Meier. What a mini-meeting that would have been! Your note is humble and sweet note, and I can only echo your sentiments and thank TE - and people like you - who have been an inspiration to improve my photography.
The photo is of one of the most beautiful subjects in the world (my husband and I spent our honeymoon there and later down South in Cassis), so your exquisite Pink Hours photo brings back such happy and unforgettable memories. Thanks once again.
Warmest wishes, bonne amities

Your note is interesting to me, as I have been fighting a rearguard action on this site against over-saturation and over-manipulation (especially the crude and obvious!) for a couple of years. But your name has come up several times as an example of how to do it properly: I think Lisa (Delpeoples) sited you as someone whose work was beautifully "finished", praising your editing skills, for instance. So it's good to know that even you can learn from this site!!
Needless to say, this is a striking photograph, exploiting the wonderful light to the max (and not over-doing the saturation!) Not sure it's pin-sharp though (30 secs is a long exposure).

Your pictures are very impressive, from Japanese woman in tea ceremony to naked African girl, from sparkling modern architecture in Singapore to tower of Baklava in Turkey. I enjoy them all. I still remember I gave you a few critiques long long time ago.
This is another awesome picture I really like. So I add it to my Favorite Collection. Thanks!
