Photographer’s Note

About 1050, the duke of Normandy William I, The Conqueror maried Mathilde. Cousins at the fifth degree, this marriage was considered by the Pope Leon IX as a consanguineous union.
To expiate this fault, the couple have to built two monasteries: l'Abbaye-aux-Hommes and l'Abbaye-aux-Dames
This abbey is since 1965 the seat of the town hall of Caen.

This is a very interesting presentation of an important and historic building,Karine, and your note makes me want to know more. I have found some information on the internet. Knowing that Caen featured so importantly in the Allied invasion during the second world war, I was interested to know how this old building survived such destruction. Belle mise en valeur de cette abbaye aux Hommes.La pelouse verte met un peu de couleur à la photo,le soleil n'était pas au rendez-vous..

You made the most of the dull sky to obtain a crisp clear view of this impressive and massive structure. I like the large format here, and the generous foreground of graphically interesting walkways and grass enhances the overall scene. A fine capture. Cheers.

Bonjour Karine,

Belle photo d'architecture qui montres bien la taille de ce monastère.

Un seul reproche: le ciel trop blanc qui est un peu trop présent à mon gout.
