Photographer's Note
Bayeux is a town and commune in the Calvados department in Normandy in northwestern France. It is located 7 kilometres from the coast of La Manche (English Channel) and 30 kilometres north-west of Caen. The city, with elevations varying from 32 to 67 metres above sea level is bisected by the River Aure. Apart from its magnificent cathedral it is perhaps best known as being home to the Bayeux tapestry that depicts William the Conqueror's defeat of Harold of England at the Battle of Hastings in 1066, thus allowing William to take the throne of England.
The city was known as Augustodurum in the Roman Empire. It means the durum (Celtic word duro- 'door', 'gate', Welsh dor, Breton dor 'door', 'gate') dedicated to Augustus, Roman Emperor. In the Late Empire it took the name of the Celtic tribe who lived here : the Bodiocassi, Latinized in Bajocassi, Bajocasses, and this word explains the place-names Bayeux and Bessin. Bodiocassi has been compared with Old Irish Buidechass 'with blond locks,

Bonjour Stephen,
Les enfants doivent beaucoup aimer la ballade. Le cadrage est impeccable et suit une belle diagonale qui donne de la profondeur à l'ensemble.
Bon samedi

Hi Stephen,
A evry pleasant street scene and a very interesting note. I am a bit surprised to see that, although July, people are wearing thick jackets. Not much of a summer this year...
Kind regards

Good morning Stephen
What a dynamic photo you've got here, both in human and equine terms. I love the superb sharpness here, it looks almost three dimensional, like the horse is going to trot through the frame at us. I also like the alignment of the street, with the gutters running straight out of the right hand FG corner. The colour is lovely and natural too. A beautiful scene, expertly captured.
Warm regards and happy Sunday

Bonjour Stephen,
Excellently composed photo. The deep depth of field is integral in joining the buildings along the street but still allowing the horse carriage to remain major focal point. I like it!

the best way to see the town, Stephen, the horse is usualy takes a slow ride through, on places with intererst and on a nice day you get to feel the ambiance out on town.
Your series about Bayeux is enlighting and I see places new to me - that's the TE true mission.
Enjoy a nice weekend,
Ike
