Photographer’s Note

I do not often present religious buildings, others members do that much better than me, but on this day of Easter, I wanted to accompany the bells o;)

At the heart of the medieval city, the Cathedral of Bayeux is a jewel of Norman architecture.
The first building of the cathedral, in a Romanesque style, was completed in 1077. It is dedicated by William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy and king of England.
But a fire, in the twelfth century, ravaging the building. We need to rebuild...
The saved elements (including the crypt), are integred in a larger new building in the thirteenth century. Its style is Gothic, sometimes using techniques typically Norman.
The "Tour of the Patriarch", above the choir, will be heightened in the nineteenth century and topped by a copper dome.
The latter work are remarkable and are perfectly integrated into the monument, one of the most exceptional of Normandy by his achievement and its dimensions. The whole cathedral is almost 110 meters long.

I wish you all a happy Easter.
