Photographer’s Note
A broader view on this wheel of the watermill in Bayeux. I liked this abandoned rake... Discouraged by the ice !
**********
Two thousand years ago, the town of Bayeux was etablished on the western bank of the river Aure. From gallo-roman times to the beginning of the 20th century, a vast number of craft industries have grown up along its banks.
It was initially a substantial food reserves, particularly in the Middle Ages.
Those craft industries requiring vast amounts of water were also concentrated along the banks : dyers, laundries, and in this particular area, tanners.
Finally, the water was also used as an energy source.
Here is the mill of Coisel, which belonged to the bishop of Bayeux in the Middle Ages. It was a source of income for him, since the people had to pay a fee for its use.

Hi Karine, For us in Australia, with our lack of old buildings, images like this are particularly appealing (well it works that way for me anyway). This crop, showing only elements and textures of the building works well, nothing to distract from this interesting exploration. Cheers, Steve

Bonjour Karine,
An interesting witness of times gone by; although many of these rakes are beging restaured now.
The darker rake and the ice stand well against the pale yellow-greyish colours of the building. Amazing what clarity and contrasts can be obtained by just a few colours!
bonne journée,
Paul

A great composition with (n)ice natural colours. The iced water wheel makes it interestingly different.

Hello Karine,
I like the perspective here and the lovely tones and textures. The wheel is placed and the sloping walkway makes a fine frame.

Salut Karine,

Amicalement,
Jacques
