Photographer’s Note

British cemetery : 2 175 graves
A small path between two hedges leads to the gate of this cemetery, where 2 175 soldiers are buried, including 2 150 British, 11 Canadians, 5 Australians, 2 New Zealander, 5 Poles and 2 unknowns. The major part of the soldiers buried in this cemetery were killed during operation Goodwood.
Those soldiers never seen Auschwitz where it was several million of crimes... Thanks to them and never again!

You're so right, you're so right with that note... Great job with that kind of 'twilight', underlines the exacting mood of your shot. Same to the presentation as a slightly toned b&w

World leaders mark anniversary and
Survivors visit death camp 60 years after liberation. It's sad anniversary.

good job. that b/w expresses the somber mood we feel with places like this, and how these people died. I live relatively close to Arlington National Cemetary, and this shot makes me want to go over there. thanks for sharing this with us.

Very moody shot, Fred. The B&W choice and your subject gives the viewer an eerie feelling :) Anyway, the contrast and sharpness is great, and good pont of view, too! Nice historical notes, too! rgds.

Goede titel Fred, inderdaad "Never again" de vele graven in Frankrijk worden wel goed onderhouden, ik vind de donkere zwart/wit foto hier wel op zijn plaats, misschien had u deze moeten posten rond november, maar hij past zeker in uw reis verhaal.

The b&w format suits the historical context perfectly. This reminds me of Kanchanaburi in Thailand (Bridge on the River Kwai). Sombre & sobering.

Hello Fred,
décidement les grands esprits se rencontrent, j'avais pensé faire une photo dans ce style, et là c'est toi qui me devance !
Photo tres forte en emotion, si tu passes par Lens(Pas de Calais), va faire un tour à ND de Lorette, à côté de Vimy ...
Petit regret, c'est un peu surexposé (ciel).

Ok on est d'accord là! Je ne sais pas si Auschwitz était leur objectif final, mais en effet ces pauvres soldats ont contribué grâce à leurs actions à sauver tant de malheureux de leur crime "promit". Malheureusement l'histoire se répète : 800 000 morts en 4 mois au Rwanda en 1994 dans un but presque similaire : détruire une ethnie ...et une action dérisoire de la part des « frères » du genre humain à l'époque. Ce qui me fait perdre confiance en la mémoire des homo sapiens... Le fait que tu ais réglé l'exposition sur les tombes (au détriment du ciel) est judicieux ici : Le sujet est bien mis en valeur et le ciel, blanc en contraste, ajoute une touche spirituelle à la composition. Belle image et pensée, Fred. Merci.
