Photographer's Note

In the Cathedral of Metz there are some 6,500 m2 of stained glass windows. The number of windows is over 120. Some of them are from the 13th century but others are of more modern design. There are for example three windows by Marc Chagall. These windows illustrate biblical scenes from the Old Testament such as Jacob wrestling with the angel (seen in this picture) and Eve and the apple.

In the night the 8 August 2008 intruders broke into the Cathedral and broke the window depicting Eva and the apple. The intruders scrawled graffiti on the cathedral's stones and appeared to be vandals rather than professional thieves.
