the sky was too cloudy to have something interesting in color, so I tried to just turn it into texture.

The sky too cloudy to have interesting colours? Hmm, a heavy sky can be interesting as well, I think.
Anyway, I like your choice to concentrate on the textures of this field. The strong contrasts make them look intense and beautiful. Black and white was the appropriate choice for this kind of picture.
