Photographer’s Note

Back to Verdun.
Very brief passage in this city, just a break on the long road to Caen to Strasbourg.
Enough to enjoy a pleasant town along the Meuse, surrounded by gardens, with a marina in the heart of the city giving it an air of resort...
A city recently renovated, with a pedestrian area which is a beautiful blend of modernity and tradition. Visitors can leisurely gaze at the town’s architecture, in particular the pretty Art Nouveau-style building fronts, created after the 1st World War.

Verdun is also clearly the terrible battle during the First World War. A city known in all the world - whose name is, after Paris, the French city's most quoted - and that is the symbol of the 14-18 War and beyond, from all wars.
Verdun concentrates alone fifteen major sites to visit in the city center, on the battlefield and around the city to trace its history.

Salut Karine,
Je connais bien Verdun mais là, je la vois plus belle grâce à cette photo. Tu as fort bien mis en valeur cette façade. Bien cadré et surtout bien exposé.

Cadrage "Karine" impec avec la jolie rupture que fait l'arche dans cet univers de fenêtres rectangulaires.

Bonjour Karine,

Un beau cadrage sur cette facade bien marquée par l histoire. Tu as bien capté les textures et le reglage de l exposition est bien equilibrée.
Je ne suis jamais passé par la. Il va falloir que je l inscrive sur une feuille de route un de ces jours.

Hello Karine,
A very pleasing study in tones and textures. I very much like old buildings like this that are part of a neighbourhood and have stood the test of time. The ambient light is perfect to capture the delicate tones and pick out the detail. Well seen and presented.

Excellent cadrage de cet immeuble ancien très intéressant. Le grand "balcon" qui suit la façade coupe de jolie façon ta compo en deux zones très différentes comme si on voulait différencier la vie "d'en bas" sombre et la vie "d'en haut" plus agréable.

je lui trouverais presque des allures méditerranéenne à ta façade, sans doute le soleil et le côté un peu décrépit!!
Une belle réalisation avec moult détails, c'est très bien vu!!

Bonjour Karine,
Très belle lumière sur cette façade aux couleurs douces un peu surannées. J'aime beaucoup ces lieux marqués par le temps, bien plus que les constructions modernes même si celles-ci se prêtent souvent à de très belles photos.
Une façade qui a à raconter... Bon dimanche !

Salut Karine,
Great colours and framing here. I always try to delete my thoughts when I read the name of the town. My grandfather told me stories when I was a child and he showed me photoalbums in BW but with faces so intense I could never forget. One of his brothers was there 14-18 and they never found a piece of him anymore. When I pass the Meuse on autoroute de l'est I always remember my grandfather telling me that there was more blood in the river than water and it turned red for a couple of days. Unbelievable.
I visited the town when I turned 18 and I am still shocked about the memorial and the countless fragments of human beeings stored there. I don't want to see that again. The area today is so nice to look at and its so hard to remember what humans can do if they rely on so called leaders. Due to the madness of a dozend so many thousands of young men from all over Europe, America, Australia and Newzealand had to live and die crucially.
Goood to see that there is a different way to look at Verdun today. TFS

Salut, Karine,

I love the French accent of the shapes and rhytm of the windows, the texture of the old wall, the strictly graphic compo drew by fine lines of shadows of white surfaces, the sophistinated colour set of vanilias, butters and beiges with the intensive patch of red door.

I mark it as one of my favs.
