The Strasbourg Cathedral is adorned with some elements of interest, one and notable is the Astronomical-clock.
First known to have been built in the 14th century: Here is a Wikipedia page about the clock and it's history.
There is a possible switch to illuminate the clock, for a few minutes, while life-cycles and astronomic-sign revolving on. The masterpiece work is adorned with statues and paintings.
Did not use any other source of light. Hand held.
Location of the Cathedral: 48.5818, 7.7505

Superb interior photo from famous Strasbourg Cathedral. I saw it from outside but never been inside. Very impressive view up. You have captured it in excellent way.
Thanks for your comment to my Centovallina photo.
When you are next time in Switzerland do not miss the Locarno- Domodossola Railway. Excellent experience. Greetings, Miro

I know how difficult it was to get this shot because of the relatively low light and the crowds of other eager photographers or spectators. It is, also, a large feature and you need to stand well back to get the whole in frame.
With these considerations, you have done well, without a tripod, to capture so much steady detail and show the rich colours, which were an important aspect.
Have a lovely day,
I can't believe how closely we seem to have followed each other! Uncanny!

bellissimo orologio astronomico, avevo visto un programma in tv in cui ne parlavano.
Eccellente esposizione e ottimo scatto, una bella presentazione.

The tight frame is putting the clock in evidence. Usling a slow shutter speed and probably a support is allowing me to see the details and colours of the astronomic clock. It has also a special effect on the colours. Have a nice day.

a most impressive and fascinating work of art. Its concept, mechanism and functions must contain so many wonders too. I like this upward and close point of view that makes it look so imposing, reveals a lot of details and benefits from the intriguing lighting variations that add to the charm of this masterpiece. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,

Interior pictures are very difficult for take, light and backlight are always opponents.
But your picture is very well taken.
This is impossible for passing without a picture.
Colour and contrast be superb.
Excellent composition, lovely captured, pleasant to look at.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice Monday,

Wonderful capture of this fantastic astronomical clock. You have done a really good job here as it is difficult inside these places to get good lighting conditions. Good POV showing good detail of the clock.

An elaborate design probably inspired of Michelangelo drawing board!
Splendid piece of history masterefully captured.

the clock is impressive and beautiful at the same time.I like your presentation of it!Very difficult to capture it as the available light was rather poor, the more I´m impressed how good you coped with the exposure and without using a tripod.
Have a nice evening

nice the view as the presentation of the interior of the Strasbourg Cathedral with the Astronomic clock to be perfect presented as dominating on the backdrop of the scene.I like the light and the colour management of the scene.
adramad (35475) 2013-08-06 5:05
Sensational watch and a great image that has captured the same, not easy to do because the light was poor and irregular, I also do some photos when I have been now in June, but I have not had time even to see them.
Good management of the brightness and sharpness.
Enjoy a nice day.
P / D: Regarding the rubble, for those who asked me, in a comment to my photo, I will tell you which are large concrete cubes, which are intended to, protect the beach from waves of the sea, making it more closed horseshoe as the Cantabrian sea, has very strong storms.
delpeoples (52543) 2013-08-06 5:08
This was a difficult shot to make, especially given the extremes of light through the window and the darker areas within the church, so you did really well to even it out. Of course there will always be over-exposure in the windows if you want to keep the details of the church walls. I love that warm, golden light and tones. Excellent details and good vertical frame.
Thanks for sharing, have a lovely day
UlfE (14639) 2013-08-06 13:33
A very impressive shot taking into account that the shutter speed was 1/6 seconds and that it was a handheld. Even if the photo is not extremely sharp you could actually distinguish very small details. Really well done. TFS and have a nice evening!
Cricri (101585) 2013-08-06 23:15
Une présentation au top tant dans la lumière, les couleurs, le cadrage serré pour bien apprécier tout les détails, belle réalisation
fabbs99 (15787) 2013-08-06 23:16
Excellent beige tone in the frame with details of the Astronomical-clock at the Strasbourg Cathedral. The sharpness and light are perfect. The colors are deep and the details are excellently expressed.Well composed photo.TFS.
mcmtanyel (10621) 2013-08-07 8:32
Your photo captures all of the clock, that is the advantage of your vantage point. However, by trying to capture varying levels of light, it also washes out some of the stained glass colors. Hmm, a difficult compromise. I would say, overall you made the right choice.
kato (11630) 2013-08-07 18:13
You're capturing well this inside of Cathedral by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's impressive to see big analog clock and the surrounding stature/painting in Cathedral. It marvels why such a big clock is put in here? I will guess that it may be one of the accessories which took in technology of those days, in order to maintain the dignity of a cathedral. It's also impressive in stained glass look to the top.
eldancer1 (25288) 2013-08-08 10:12
I really admire the first person who invented the clock, the guy must be a genius to figure all that out. Nice capture of this old timer (literally) with good pov and dof with nice details. Well done, tfs.

A beautiful interior of church in Strasbourg, I saw also in Beverley's gallery
Good framing and colors, a superb astronomic clock

jcpix (11478) 2013-08-10 16:55
Impressive piece of craftsmanship indeed, and on such a large scale! There appears to be a subtle play of light across the clock, which feels to give it that added touch of beauty and elegance. There's also very warm tones from the interior lighting conditions, which I think aids in this particular presentation. Tough light all around from what I can make out, but you did a nice job in not allowing the windows from being completely blown out. I like this angled viewpoint too, gives a good idea of the dimensions. Well done, looks great!Hope you're having a nice weekend.

I have seen similar clocks before. The one which comes to my mind is in Lubeck. Very interesting mechanism. Well presented,

Very nice warm colors. A very good result for a handheld photograph inside a building!
