Photographer's Note
Flying buttresses on the northern side of Strasbourg's Notre Dame cathedral. Contrary to the architecture of other gothic cathedrals (such as Notre Dame cathedral in Paris)there are very few flying buttresses and they are isolated from the walls. The purpose of any buttress is to resist the lateral forces pushing a wall outwards (which may arise from stone vaulted ceilings or from wind-loading on roofs) by redirecting them to the ground and they are a mark of gothic cathedrals.

Hi Adina
like this shot a lot. An unconventional catherdral image but one that is original and beautiful. I love the POV and symmetry here but it is the intricate detailing and colours that make it so attractive. You have some great images in your gallery, I apologise for not viewing before.
Have a great weekend - Brian.
