Photographer’s Note
Riquewihr was first mentioned in 1094 as a property of the Horbourg landlords, then was given to the Württemberg landlords from the Stuttgart area who bult the city walls in 1291 and developped the city. On this photo you can see the 25 meters high Dolder Tower that was built in the XIII th century as an entrance through the inner wall.
You can see on the tower a scene of its lighting that varies from green to purple, here green.
To take this photo I've been leaning on the wall of the most famous shop in Riquewihr, the "Féerie de Noël", a shop that sells Christmas items and decorations year round, and they do actually manage to make business with such items even in july with 35° in the streets ! Unfortunately it is forbidden to take photos in this shop so you won't see any photo, but many people actually stroll through its elaborated Christmas decorations just as in a Christmas museum.

Bonjour JY
another lovely view from this picturesque town. Again, I like very much the reflected light from the cobbles, and the overall atmosphere. I still find it a bit dark, and I wonder whether you took any shots a quarter of an hour or so earlier and whether this would have shown us a bit more of the architecture?

Salut Jean-Yves,

Bonjour Jean Yves,
Another superb composition of this night serie of yours!
Again, I love the distortion captured by the 22mm and the angle of this shot is very, very nice! Beautiful lighting and again very nice dark blue of the sky. The tower against it has a fantastic look. Very pleasant atmosphere given by the blurred people, very busy on this time of the year. Congratulations!
Merci,

Another beautiful Christmas photo from Alsace you show us.
I really like the wide perspective here. Nice catch of light and the motion of the people enhance dynamism.

I love the wide angle JY. That 10-22 lens is on my wish list and has been for a while and heres why. Fantastic sweeping view of the square with the beautiful lighting and atmosphere evident in these shots of yours from Alsace. Very Christmasy and cheerful.

Hello Jean Yves,
I like to see this picture. For a few reasons. First ofcourse a nice pov and good sharpness with great light, colours and Christmas mood. Second I like to see this because three years ago we were on holiday in the Vogezen (Vosges) and went to many small cities like Kayzersberg, Mittelwihr, Ribaueville and ofcourse also Riquewihr. So I know this picture and I like that. Four years ago we went to Bretagne and this summer we were in the Ardeche and in 2006 we are going to the Loire. We want to see whole France.
Best regards,
Don

Hello night shots Terror,

I like this super-wide shot. The tower on oone side and the shop on the other side make a kind of V-shape for the viewer. Great lighting too, shoiing off the rough stones and timbers of these classic buildings. Well done!

Hello JY,

A nice add to your previous one, JY, showing the tower in the half-timbered old town context. Beautiful ambience created by the lights, even though overall I find it could be just a tad brightened. In any case a pleasant entry into your seasonal series.

Hello Jean-Yves,

Hi Jean-Yves. For a bit I was thinking you were crazy enough to do this hand-held, and then I read your note. What a cool effect with the people walking through. Also the sky still has detail in it. This is the perfect time of day for a night shot. Excellent shot JY!

Leaning against a wall eh? I might have to do this in London soon with all the rules on tripods.
I like this contribution for the fact that you have used a very wide angle lens which has given us a dramatic distortion. The colouring is nice and rich and the exposure well managed. The noise is well managed on the image and is hardly visible.
Good effort.

Is this the reverse of yesterday's shot Jean-Yves; I see the arches ahead. Again a wonderful image, and whilst it is not drenched in Chritmas lights there is a very Christmasy feel to it. Thank goodness you captured the shot while the green light was on. I've nothing against purple but it would have killed the mood here. Well done again

Hello JY - another beautiful and atmospheric christmas shot, the lights are fantastic and the cobbled pavement gives nice reflections. Amazing sharpness to complement the blurry people, I don't know how you can hold the camera so still.

Bonjour Jean Yves,

Bravo!

Hola Jean Yves.
Nice shot from outside the village, what you call the inner wall. Very good light reflection and the presence of a lot of action with the people buying Christmas items.
The arch bellow the Dolder Tower from where you captured your previous picture is clearly defined.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Belle ambiance.
Bonne rentrée du Japon.

Salut JY, this is a superb Blue Hour shot, made even more beautiful by the outstanding architecture and the blurred people in the FG. You give us history and modern movement all in one. And I love the distortion caused by the lens. Warm regards, Lisa.
