A pedestrian square along the Grand-Rue in Ribeauvillé, Alsace district, located on a rural road between Strasbourg and Colmar.
The colorful houses are in abundance and can be seen along the main tourist trail in the picturesque small town.
Another pic.s of this beautiful town on the WS's.

Taken under grey cloudy sky, enhanced saturation by just a bit.

Bonjour, cher Ike,
La magie opère toujours avec ces vieilles et vénérables maisons aux façades colorées utilisant les pans de bois.
Rue animée créant du dynamisme à la composition.
Très bonne journée.

Good Morning Ike,
It feels trite but they don't build houses like this any more, which is a great pity because they are full of individual character and make walking down the street a pleasurable experience. Along with your w/s, you have captured the styles, and here, the mood as well.
Your pov enables us to join the tourists on this picturesque walk.
Have a great Sunday,

A busy street full of tourists enjoying the delightful architecture of this little town. You have captured the atmosphere very well in this evenly lit composition. Pleasing pastel tones and excellent detail. Thanks for sharing.

The architecture is so lovely Ike!
Even if you hadn´t the best weather the architecture and atmosphere of such historic places make up for that.I must also agree with Bev-such houses are not building anymore.
Superb presentation with outstanding quality and lovely and contrasting colors.
Have a nice sunday

The architecture of the houses is an asset to the composition. The point of view is showing it very well. The people are bringing life to the scene. Have a nice day.

nice the view as the presentation of this section of the city with a lot of people to stroll on the pedestrian square.I like the architectural style of the houses with the light management to makes the image even more effective.

Excellent capture of the beautiful traditional architecture of Alsace. You couldn't help it that the weather wasn't beautiful but with a nicer sky the castle (or fortress) on the hill on the distance would become a real eye-catcher.
Lots of people seem not to mind the weather and do enjoy their stroll past the beautiful houses.
Best regards, Paul

I like very much your composition that leads and opens into a wonderful perspective of elegant, picturesque houses that delight with their unique style. I think there's a slight tilt but maybe it's a play of perspectives that has made me think so. The inclusion of the people is very nice, their movement towards the background invites us to follow them. Clarity and colour management are superb and really do justice to the this attractive and interesting urban view. I like very much the details of the workshop pictures as well. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great week,

One can definitely see the German influence in this province of France. The architecture is very similar and also very characteristic and attractive. I like the sense of movement here, everyone is walking away from the camera towards an unknown destination. You did very well with the available light. When I was in Ireland, I noticed how difficult it was to shoot in such diffused light, as compared to the harsh light of Australia. I wonder whether you encountered the same problems between Germany and your own country.
Warmest wishes, enjoy your Sunday

Most of the people on the street are wearing dark color costumes, it is good contrast to the buildings in bright colors, lively shot, nice street view from a beautiful old town, good WS photos to show more old buildings, distinct photos, good shoot.
jemaflor (74078) 2013-10-07 0:12
Beautiful street with all these old houses, interesting people presente to complete the view, nice sharpness.
Kugart (1774) 2013-10-07 6:20
This is a very picturesque little town with wonderful old buildings so colourful and full of character. You have chosen a nice angle here to capture the atmosphere of the street with all the people milling around chatting and looking into shop windows. Lovely colours and clarity considering it seemed like a very dull day.
adramad (30945) 2013-10-07 7:54

You show by the rules book the best of this charming village in wich the colourful architecture style is the main attraction.
I notice lot of people standing around the postcards rack; I use to do this myself to find in town the best photographic spots!
Quite colourful indeed.

Alsace is a wonderful region for photography lovers.
The region is rich of colorful and attractive architecture and streets.
Your picture render very well the atmosphere but I prefer personally the photograph in WS.
Anyway a good job with that colorful picture giving me the desire to visit Alsace again.

You seem to have been a bit unlucky with the weather on your trip in June but with good compositions and perspectives and colourful photos as well photos with a great variety you have managed to take a fine series of photos anyway. The way you make use of the colours here is really great. The perspective here could not have been better. TFS and have a fine week!

This is a very cute town, with unique architecture. It looks like you caught a Chevy Spark in this European town. I got to drive one on my CO trip this summer.
I have found out that using a neutral density filter in postprocessing just on the sky helps in difficult light like this. (One example I have is Titanic Aground in Branson MO. In that collage, both photos got the neutral density treatment for the sky.) If your postprocessing software does not have neutral density filter, a light application (< 25 %) of Cooling Filter #82 without preserving luminosity might also help. (Another way of avoiding blown out skies is preexposing wrt the sky, but that may sometimes underexpose the main subject beyond recovery.)
The other observation I have is that the buildings straight ahead are leaning to the left by 1.4 degrees. Now it might be because they are old, but I doubt it. My suspicion is that the whole photo is a bit tilted. For a tilt to look deliberate and not accidental, it needs to be substantial. (Even the 7.5 degree tilt I gave to Köprüaltı Yansımaları looked accidental to some.)
I hope I did not bore you with all this talk of technique. After all that, let me reiterate that I find this to be a reasonable rendition of a cute corner of a cute town that deserves to be represented on TE.

Hi Ike, I have been just looking at my shots from Riquewihr, these small towns are similar and so picturesque. Every corner there invites for some shots. For someone who likes half-timbered houses it is real haven. Even in these weather condition it looks very colourful and beautiful. Superb presentation.
