Hello friends and colleagues, today I present another nice view of the beautiful and interesting city of Colmar, in the charming region of Alsace, here is a letter about the city, I hope you enjoy.
Colmar (France: Colmar; Alsatian: Colmer; German: Colmar, between 1871-1918 and 1940-1945: Kolmar) is a town and commune in the department of Haut-Rhin Alsace, France.
It is the prefecture (capital) of the district of the same name.
The old city center, well preserved houses several buildings, sometimes large, German Gothic and early Renaissance and a number of old churches, among which is the collegiate church of San Martín (XIII century) as the largest and most notable.
Local artist Martin Schongauer XV century painted what is considered his masterpiece, The Madonna of the Roses, in the Eglise des Dominicains (Dominican church). The famous Isemheim Altarpiece by Matthias Grünewald highlight is the treasure housed in the Museum Unterlinden city. The museum, opened in 1853, is housed in the former convent of the Dominican order of "Unterlinden" (meaning "under the linden trees").
In 1834, was born in Colmar Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, creator of the famous Statue of Liberty, located in New York City.
Once a year, in August, the Fair hosts Colmar wines.
However, the greatest art is that Colmar retains traditional ambience with its wooden frame houses carefully preserved, filled with flowering geraniums on hot days.
Colmar has an interesting center, studded with old buildings, a famous museum, Unterlinden, and carefully Little Venice.
Furthermore, in the vicinity of the city there are some other points of interest, such as the magnificent town of Riquewihr, and great food and wine care also linger conception of art.
Unterlinden Museum is housed in a former Dominican convent founded in the thirteenth century, with a Gothic cloister considered the best in the region.
About 300,000 visitors come each year to the center, which exposes excellent art exhibitions of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, as well as archaeological and ethnographic, on two floors and a basement.
But the core of this whole attraction is the famous Issenheim altarpiece, painted in the early sixteenth century by Grünewald to decorate a convent chapel Issenheim (20 miles south of Colmar)
The ten paintings of Grünewald are masterful. The painter left an impressive Crucifixion, which amazed the wincing, luminous shades and many details, among which is the painful aspect of Christ's flesh.
This crucifixion of Mathias Grünewald painter has placed as one of the most prominent European and world religious art of all time.
Little Venice, a beautiful set of traditional houses, full of flowers, beautiful half-timbered, line up along the street and Fish Pier, next to the canal.
These houses were owned by fishermen. Also lived in the neighborhood gardeners traditionally used by the channel to drive the fruits to the city market. Today the boats carry tourists rather quiet.
Very near this neighborhood is that of the tanners, with houses of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, lovingly restored.
Around the city center of Colmar houses abound timbered Alsatian, artistic balconies, turrets, balconies and other decorative elements.
In addition to the proliferation of this type of construction, stands in Colmar exquisite care of this important heritage, full of flowers during the most benign.
This gorgeous set spans much of the city, but is particularly notable in the walk from the Cathedral Square to the Old Customs and Little Venice.

I have to say, even though it may be a little overexposed from the white hot ligthing, it still looks very good.
especially in the sky, the white bright sky still has that attractiveness to it as it contrasts nicely with the rooftops.
charming architecture, charming scene from top to bottom.

Your composition is quite delightful. The f/g flowers anchor the shot and give depth, across the canal, to these very attractive half-timbered houses. The lead lines are good, the reflections add interest and the little boat is very well placed in the frame. A most attractive shot.
My warm regards,

The light is amazing and makes this image looks like a painting. The angle of shot is well chosen to show water and architecture in a nice framing with the flowers. Beautiful colors all over.

Your picture really reminds me that I should visit Colmar soon enough again.
Beautiful framing with the flowers acting as an additional frame and the row of half timbered houses, so typical for the Alsace region, are simply beautiful.
have a great day

Welcome back Angel, hope you had a good time away for a little bit! :) The more I see of Colmar, the faster I need to get there myself. It's always been on my "radar," but seeing a picture like this is hard to deny the beauty and charm it would seem to possess. A splendid composition and smart idea to include the foreground flowers for added appeal and depth. These timbered houses sure exude that old world atmosphere, it's like looking back in time, and happily so! Bathed in sunshine and full of detail and interesting architecture, this is a fine view along the canal. Hope to see many more! Have a great day ahead.
Friendly wishes from the U.S.,

The colourful flowers make a lovely frame for the delightful ensemble of architecture lining the riverside. The light and colours are both very attractive and the clarity excellent.

There are several places in California where one can have a house and dock for yacht in the back. Nice capture of those beautiful architectures. Good pov and dof with sharp details. Well done, tfs.

a very delightful point of view with fine use of perspective and an interesting juxtaposition of the two banks, the right one represented by the lovely, colourful flowers. There's a fascinating intensity and moodiness to the light, the colours are well managed and attractive. I love the texture of the water and the reflections. An elegant composition for a the presentation of a beautiful picturesque town. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day,

A picturesque river town view, an extremely strong crisp-clean shot so well apportioned with the inviting old houses grab all the attention in. Love this for all the right reasons, i think you are blessed to see it and doubly blessed to capture it. A pleasure to view, Congrats.

Looks a little like the canals of Amsterdam. The diagonal axis of the waterway adds fine lead in lines and linear perspective as well as enhancing the dynamism. Fantastic splashes of colour in the fg with the red and yellow flowers, which give a nice warm cold color contrast against the blue skylight reflected in the water. Tfs!
ikeharel (44125) 2013-09-22 4:19
Beautiful Colmar houses along the canal, made of wooden beams in the typical Alsace style.
POV across the water adorned with colorful flowers, collected well, and the reflection on water is pleasent element on image to look at.
PaulVDV (17333) 2013-09-22 12:52
The facades of these timbered houses are so beautiful in their soft tones.
The flowers on the foreground add more colour to the picture while the ripples on the dark green canal in between create some slightly distorted reflections.
Wonderful presentation of the typical architecture of the Alsace.
Best regards, Paul

This is a very picturesque town and I like the detail that you have shown in the timber-framed buildings with the pastel coloured walls. Well done for including the flowers in the FG.
A lovely image, TFS.
Kind Regards, Ann

Hello Angel - The row of timber framed houses is very attractive and they look well cared for a preserved. The steep sloping roof tops indicate that the area receives plenty of snow in winter but here is a milder day and you shot reveals the season through the inclusion of the floral FG and figures enjoying the water. Attractive and well composed shot. Warm regards, have a great weekend. Rosemary
