The castle in Sully-sur-Loire looks like a real castle, I mean, other castles look more like palaces. It is marvelously situated on water, it looks like taken from a fairy-tale book. It is a bit away of other castles in the Loire valley and is much less visited. In fact, I was the ONLY ONE visitor inside it. Didi lives not far from it and made many spectacular photos with excellent stitching. I am not so clever so it is just the single photo. But I like the view anyway.
The château is the seat of the duc de Sully, Henri IV's minister Maximilien de Béthune (1560–1641), and the ducs de Sully. It is a château-fort, a true castle, built to control one of the few sites where the Loire can be forded; the site has perhaps been fortified since Gallo-Roman times, certainly since the beginning of the eleventh century. In 1218, Philip Augustus constructed a cylindrical keep to the south of the present enclosure, of which buried foundations remain. Guy de la Trémoille, inheriting the fortress, undertook the construction of the "Donjon", flanked by four towers, beginning in 1395. To one side was added the Petit Château in the sixteenth century to provide more agreeable accommodation; Sully remodelled it. Sully bought the domaine in 1602, enlarged the park and the fortress; he strengthened the embankments of the Loire to protect the town from occasional flooding.
The Château de Sully-sur-Loire remained in the possession of the family until 1962 when it became a property of the Département du Loiret, and has since benefited from numerous restorations. It hosts a classical music festival each June. The château contains numerous tapestries (including a set of six seventeenth-century hangings, the Tenture de Psyché), paintings of Sully's ancestors and heirs, and seventeenth-century furnishings. Here is also the tomb of Sully and that of his second wife.
In 1716 and again in 1719 the château sheltered Voltaire, when he had been exiled from Paris for affronting the Régent, Philippe, duc d'Orléans.

Superbe château qui profite bien de toute l'eau qui l'entoure pour se regarder lui-même. La pierre apporte une texture très spéciale à la composition.

wspaniala prezentacja tego pieknego zamku. Ogromnie podoba mi sie architektura. Lubie takie szpiczaste wieze przypominaja mi Zamek w Malborku badz Brame Miejska w Lubece.
Tutaj dodatkowo uchwycilas znakomite 100% odbicie.
Prawdziwa uczta dla fotografa. Przyjemnie sie oglada.
Warto bylo jechac tak daleko nawet zeby zobaczyc ten jeden zamek.

I wonder if the people who designed and built this and similar castles in the "dark ages" could ever watch them with the same kind of eyes as we. Did they get excited at the look of the thick walls and the round towers? Were they ever as impressed as we are now? Did they ever consider the beauty of the reflections in the moat? It's a fine photo you have taken, and what a joy to be alone at a place like this, a rarity in these days. You won't be alone anywhere in Istanbul, for sure.

A crisp and clear view of this beautiful castle. A very interesting text to accompany. The surrounding pond and the reflections created by the calm water makes it quite evocative. Very nice indeed! Thanks.
Best regards, Erling

Ciao cara Itchy Feet
Still on the road are we? Nice one of this beautiful chaeteau, I really love the symmetry and the crisp reflections. I can see why the reflection is a little cut-off: no doubt the edge of the pond or lake was right there in the way. Love the light and the photo overall. We're back from Europe after 5 weeks and over 4,000 kilometres driven. I won't tell you how many photos, although nowhere near your record :)

Une bonne photo du château de Sully-sur-loire et de son beau reflet (je suppose que tu n'avais pas assez de recul pour avoir le reflet non coupé).

Fabulous reflection collected on the banks over the Chateau's defense canal.
Immaculate shot under best of light condition, not too harsh/not to mild, and clear view upon.
The place is overwhelming sight, you posted a grand POV show its beauty.

You're right, Malgorzata, this castle looks like a castle. I like those cylindrical towers and the pointy roofs, as well as the color of the walls. Good work.

How lucky that there is stil a moat around this chateau as it gives some stunning reflections. The sharpness of the picture is excellent showing plenty of detail in the walls. Very pleasing colours too.
A lovely place to have visited.
Kind Regards, Ann

Leaving in the small strip of fg shows that it wasn't possible to get all of the reflections in without changing position or lens focal length. Excellent symmetry regardless and we can extrapolate what the tips of the reflections look like. Wonderful warm cold color contrasts between the yellow green reflection and blue sky and water with good sharpness. Tfs!

This castle also looks a bit like a fortified stronghold.
Excellent sharpness, colours and wonderful reflections in the moat.
Best regards, Paul

Pieknosci tu prezentujesz, dużo ogladania bedę miał jak znajdę troszke czasu.
Światło podkreśliło surowość murów tego zamku a odbicie w wodzie dodało jeszcze smaczku fotografii. Piękny kadr.
