The purpose of stained glass
The primary purpose in making stained glass windows was to provide an expression of faith, a desire to beautify the house of God. And in general, whatever its setting, the art has discernibly more power if it has something important to say. In the later Middle Ages, windows were sometimes commissioned as a way of buying one’s ticket to heaven or, in more recent times, they were often made to commemorate a notable person or group from the community. In every case though the glass is closely linked both to its architectural setting and to the light of the sky beyond.

Encore une belle image qui montre une parfaite capture de la lumière. Il n'y a aucune distorsion (c'est ce qui m'étonne le plus)

Very nice shot of this wonderful window. The light coming through the colouful glasses creates a wonderful effect. It is always very nice to see such masterpieces in French churches.

Très difficile de photographier ces vitraux sans distorsion, mais tu as réussi!! Une très bonne gestion de la lumière combiné avec un cadrage parfait, et voilà!!

Vous êtes le roi semblable des jolies images, le verre coloré dans les églises reste une attraction pour la vue. Aiguiser toujours sa votre photo et agréablement pour la vue.

Excellent and moody result, Philippe, as the play of light on the colorful artwork is so well rendered in your photo. It looks very vivid and makes me feel I am standing inside the church and admiring this piece. Interesting notes, too.

The main church of my town have also stained gass vitrals but some of them where replaced with the time. A difficult shot to capture these artworks. We really got it!
Fine colored glass window that you managed for composition so well. Nice colors, light management and a clear picture.

C'est un vitrail plein de couleurs !
L'exposition est excellente et le jeu d'ombre et de lumière est très beau.
Dans cette scène de la crucifixion, je ne comprenais pas très bien les anges en haut du vitrail. A gauche, je me demandais pourquoi l'ange tenait un t-shirt de Jésus ? C'est sûrement le suaire dans lequel Jésus fut embaumé après sa mort. C'est peut-être une évocation du (faux) suaire de Turin. A droite, l'ange tient le calice, car c'est bien sur la croix que Jésus but le calice "jusqu'à la lie".
Très beau travail.

Bon d'abord une question : hier je me suis essayée au vitrail, en pensant à tous les superbes vitraux que vous nous faites partager, hélas! énorme distorsion, je ne suis tout de même pas naine, emportez-vous un escabeau avec vous ?
Bref, celui-ci est à nouveau parfait, avec une superbe capture de la lumière.

Thank you Philippe for the information about the making of stained glass windows. This one is beautiful showing the Easter story. In NZ we don't have too many stained glass windows in our churches, mainly the bigger cathedrals do, and some of the older churches. But the more modern churches don't. Our history only goes back just over 200 years, and we don't have the history you have in Europe.
